From Batman Day to the Madman Anime Festival to Teen Titans Go to the Movies as always there is tons happening across Australia to keep you busy this weekend. Here is everything going on for this Week in Geek.

Queensland

Wednesday

Do you have razor sharp puzzle solving skills when it comes to escape rooms? Want to see what it takes to be World Championship material? This Wednesday on the Gold Coast at Griffith University you can see teams of 4 as they compete in the Australian qualifiers for the World Escape Room Championship. It’s open for all 18+ teams of 4 but if you are on Gold Coast this is your last chance.

On Wednesday the current Outta the Box Anime Festival wraps up at Event Cinemas with Castle in the Sky. Playing at Event Cinemas in Brisbane at Myer Centre, Garden City and Chermside cinemas you can pickup your tickets from the Event Cinemas website now.

If you have Foxtel and missed it playing last month this Wednesday is your second chance to watch the 1968 Jane Fonda Classic Barbarella airing on the movie greats channel. If you have never seen it before this is one of those iconic films which helped Sci-Fi films into the mainstream as astronaut Barbarella in the year 40,000 lands on the frozen planet Lythion, so maybe bring some popcorn.

Thursday

Firstly, Thursday is RUOK Day a day dedicated to Suicide Prevention. It’s your day to make a difference by reaching out and talking to people including those you may not talk to that often to make sure they are OK. If you need help there is plenty of places for you to get help so don’t wait until Thursday if you are in need too.

In cinemas this Thursday there is a stack of new movies out that you are going to want to see. For the more kid friendly viewing see Christopher Robin and Teen Titans Go to the Movies when they are released this week or if you are a bit more mature (or less) the new Shane Black directed Predator movie is also in cinemas. Friday

Friday for Netflix subscribers Season 5 of the awesomeness that is Bojack Horseman returns. If you aren’t already watching Bojack don’t worry you can always just cancel your weekend plans and binge every episode (or just do that anyway even if you are already caught up).

Friday in Bundaberg head to the theatre for some Ronald Dahl with the stage adaption of George’s Marvellous Medicine. Playing for 2 performances only this Friday and direct from the sold out performances at the Sydney Opera House make sure you get your tickets.

If you are a fan of terrible movies New Farm Cinemas in Brisbane are screening the worst movie ever made, The Room on Friday. If you have not seen it, it is truly bad but there are not many movies so bad that they can make a good movie through someone making about a movie about the making of the original bad movie. If movie-ception was a thing it would be this film.

Also in Brisbane head to the 1-Up Arcade late Friday night for their first ever all night lock-in session. This special event runs from 10 PM until 10 AM with tickets available at the door with food and drink provided to get you through the night as you do your best to max your personal best on the arcades (and maybe our own Geek Society Indie Arcade too)

Saturday

Thinking about hitting up your local comic book store this week? If you head there this Saturday it is Batman Day again. Now Batman/Harley Quinn Day check your local comic store for any promotions and exclusives planned this Saturday.

If you are a Tabletop gamer in Brisbane or the surrounds then you are probably already heading to Go Play 2018 this weekend. This weekend long gaming event held at the State Library Edge with tons of different games for you to play like Paranoia and D&D Adventures League to name a few for you to try. It’s happening Saturday and Sunday.

Fancy a quick 18 this Saturday and Sunday but unsure of the weather? Try Brisbane‘s Netherworld for 18 pinball challenges as part of Pin Golf. This time you are playing for a massive cash prize, so dust off your best golfing wares and qualify this Saturday for your chance to land in the top 16 play-off Sunday.

Saturday at the Hotel West End in Brisbane is your second chance for the sold out trivia night of the only ever recorded instance of a successful US remake of a UK show with The Office Trivia. There are best dressed prizes to go along with some mini games including Jim & Pam’s wedding dance off and Office Olympics, it’s on this Saturday in Brisbane. (Seriously did you see US The IT Crowd *shudder*).

Sunday, if you managed to score some tickets Mario Kart takes to the real world with Mushroom Racing in Sydney. This is a sold out session so why are we telling you about it? Because they just added some more sessions in the next few weeks which might be your last chance.

New South Wales’ largest Toy and Hobby Collectable Market, Collectormania is on again. The largest collectors toy fair in NSW with everything from MOTU to original card Star Wars and everything in between, if you can’t find what you are looking anywhere you will probably find it here this Sunday in Sydney.

Also this Saturday in Adelaide from a galaxy a long way away the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra presents Star Wars: A New Hope the way you want to see all your John Williams films, with a full symphony orchestra.
