Hey! Welcome to 2021! We are so glad to see you here! There is a ton planned for this year with big cons looking set to resume starting with the first Oz Comic-Con under its new organiser in Sydney this weekend. This weekend’s con is a Popup event with a ton of stuff to see including our first featured cosplayer for 2021 and Oz Comic-Con Sydney Official Cosplay Guest – WhereIsDanielle
What’s your name & how old are you? My name is Danielle Debs and I’m 25yrs old. I get asked for ID non stop though because apparently I look like a child.
How long have you been cosplaying? I started cosplaying in 2013, so around 8 years now. (Wow has that time flown by.)
What inspired you to start cosplaying? I think the thing that truly got me into cosplay was the fact that it combined all of my favourite things. Not only did I get to be creative and make something with my own two hands from scratch, but I also got to wear it and in a way perform as a character and see people’s reactions.
It just is the perfect creative outlet, that combination of the challenge and satisfaction of creating something but also the childlike joy of playing dress up as my favourite characters.
What was your First Cosplay? My first ever cosplay was Halo 4 Master Chief, I decided it was go big or go home and I kind of haven’t looked back since.
What is your most recent cosplay? My most recent cosplay is this really cool variation of Supergirl that was drawn up by artist Comicker Girl and inspired by the outfits seen on Krypton in the comics. I actually finished it this Wednesday night, at like 1 am the night before I needed it, as per most cosplay projects.
What cosplays are you currently working on? I’m always working on about 8 projects, right now is no exception as I’ve got the CW Supergirl outfit from seasons 1-4 half finished, Commander Shepard from Mass Effect, a Hunter from Destiny 2, Gates the leader of the 6-4s from the campaign of Titanfall 2. SPI armour from the Halo books not even the game franchise and I’ve half started the new Halo Infinite Master Chief armour.
And I’m about 80% sure that that isn’t everything, and if I were to walk out into my workspace I’d find something else I’ve started- I just remember that I’m making season 5 She-Ra from the Netflix series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.
Who are your favourite cosplayers in the community? Honestly I couldn’t pick favourites, everyone in the community is so special and wonderful in their own ways and all bring so much joy to the community. I guess if I had to list a few people that I always make the effort to track down and say hello to; Soylent Cosplay, AltF4, Pheel Good Cosplay, Fifty Face Jayce, and if I’m gonna slide in an international cosplayer (which I am) Smelms is so talented and I’m very excited to meet him one day.
Who else do you want to cosplay? My cosplay list is about the same length as my arm, a never ending amount of cool designs and great characters that I just can’t help but want to bring to life. Top of my list is to finish everything I’ve got started and then we shall see where we go from there.
Tell us an odd fact about yourself! I’m not sure if this counts as an odd fact but if you’ve seen Neil Patrick Harris as Doctor Horrible do that cool finger wave thing?
I can do that, because for some reason that was a skill I thought I needed to learn as a teenager.
