What’s On: Oct 16 – 22

This week who watches the Watchmen? Probably you because it’s out next week but first we have Zombieland 2, the Australian Nationals for Robowars and Drone FPV Racing plus a lot more. Here is your guide to everything happening this week in Geek across Australia.

On Streaming/TV

On TV this week if you have Foxtel it’s time to fill that Game of Thrones shaped hole in your life with the next big HBO series based on The Watchmen. Continuing in the same universe and timeline as the Watchmen film, we liked what we saw as part of SDCC so we have been waiting out for this one.

Also in small screen stuff although we did miss it by a week, if you don’t have Netflix SBS Viceland have started playing Season One of Final Space on Monday nights. For all you lovers of cookies and haters of Kevin.

In Cinemas

In Cinemas this week you can double your pleasure if you remember the rules with Zombieland 2, Zombieland Double Tap out on Thursday. All the original cast from the first movie are coming back for what is one of our favourite all-time zombie movies and you can check back later this week for our spoiler-free review.

In more of a Disney than Zombie mood? Then also in cinemas this week is the sequel to the Angelina Jolie Maleficent with Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Possibly one of the first live-action adaptions this one followed the fall of the villain from the 1959 Sleeping Beauty animated film. If you are into storybook tales on the big screen, this could be for you.

Stuff To Go Do

It’s all about the Nationals this weekend starting in Brisbane for the Robowars Nationals this Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are still available in limited quantities if you want to pick some up with 4 sessions per day back-to-back of the best robot builders in Australia going head to head to absolutely destroy each others bots. If you have been meaning to check out the robot combat scene this is your last chance for 2019.

Moving down to Canberra next and continuing with the Nationals with the Australian FPV Drone Racing Nationals. FPV is a pretty underground scene in Australia with various clubs and comps happening nationwide but this is the big one where the best from every comp comes together to race, time trial and freestyle their way to prove they are the best in the country.

And lastly if you are in Adelaide we don’t have any nations for you but the Anime Go! Japanese Pop Culture Festival is on this weekend too. Spinning out of the OzAsia Festival this one happens for one day only with a day packed with all things for the Anime lover.
