Creator Spotlight: 5 Questions Eatvolve’s Aladar Apponyi

This week we catch up with the creator behind the latest game to be featured on our own Indie Arcade at Brisbane’s 1Up Arcade, a platformer which has you start life as a worm and eat your way to survive. So take 5 with Eatvolve creator Aladar Apponyi!

What are you playing/reading/watching right now? Still going with Pokemon Go! and I’ve been playing a lot of Fortnite with a mate in Adelaide. The way the game changes every week is really exciting. We’ve slowly gotten better at building and had our first Duo win a couple weeks ago.

Reading ‘The Broken Earth Series’ by N.K.Jemisin, Listening to ‘Citations Needed’ & ‘Waypoint Radio’, Watching Westworld Season 2.

What is Eatvolve? Why is it important?  Eatvolve is a platforming evolutionary eat-em-up, with an emphasis on exploration and discovery. It’s intended to be easy to pick up, and a challenge to master, a curious player may find things that surprise and delight! I’ve tried to make all game systems intuitively discoverable, to avoid tutorials slowing down the player.

Eatvolve is important to me as it began as a project to learn programming with. I never imagined i’d still be working on it a couple years later!

Apart from your [thing] what should everyone be looking out for in local Australian Pop Culture? Whatever Team Cherry do next after Hollow Knight will have the whole world watching! I think Knuckle Sandwich will do super well, and Dead Static Drive! though i’m not sure how far away it is?

Major prediction for Pop Culture 12 months from now? Infinity War will be good? Maybe we’ll finally be sick of Zombies? 2nd Battle Angel Alita trailer looked a lot better so maybe that will turn out ok? I am excited to see The Peripheral series, and the new Dune films, the original is one of my favourites and Blade Runner 2049 was a lot better than I expected!

I’m Keen to play the Resident Evil 2 remake as i never played on PS1, but really liked 4 & 5.

Best last thing you ate? I’ve been trying to improve my Okonomiyaki recipe, as i make it almost fortnightly for my family. Recently I found Yam flour here in Melbourne, and its made a huge difference, to the point i think my home made is as good as some i’ve eaten in Osaka!

And that’s 5! You can play Eatvolve at the Indie Arcade now at the 1Up Arcade if you are in Brisbane otherwise you can pickup a copy of the game via the Eatvolve website or follow the Papadar Twitter for more updates.
