From the Adelaide Fringe Festival in full swing to the Penny Farthing Nationals in Tasmania this weekend, there is plenty to do this weekend so check out what is on this week in geek across Australia.

1. Queensland

Friday

This Friday the Brisbane Comedy Festival starts. Expanding on previous years with even more venues the month long festival is bigger than ever in every way. For more information and tickets head to the official site.

Saturday

Can you shoot a falling leaf with only a single shot? If so you are probably already a master of Point Blank but if not then Netherworld’s Arcade Club – Point Blank Edition might be for you. On Saturday in Brisbane Netherworld will be holding a Point Blank master class followed by a competition. Oh, and it’s entirely free.

Sunday

Need more Delorean for your Sunday? That 80’s Time Travel Movie is a Back to the Future parody musical based on the greatest Time Travel movie of all time. Happening for a limited season until March 27 you can catch the next performance this Sunday in Brisbane.

2. New South Wales & ACT

Wednesday

Nothing happening this Wednesday? Might be time to catch up on your gaming or see Black Panther again! Or maybe you are up to something else awesome you want to let us know about.

Thursday

This Thursday get your Game Night on with Game Night in Cinemas. It might not be Clue but this film based on a Game Night gone too far has something for everyone. It’s out in cinemas across Australia on Thursday.

Also on Thursday (and Friday) at Canberra‘s Reload Bar there is some NSFW Disney with Geektease Disney Cosplay Burlesque happening. This two night only show exclusively at the Reload combines many things you probably can’t checkout on your work web browser but is for anyone who loves Disney and Cosplay. Tickets are limited but can be picked up via Eventbrite.

Friday

Looking for a way to celebrate Mardi Gras this year but still all about gaming? Join the Sydney Gaymers group for their Pixel Party as they take over the Value Bar for some casual and hardcore gaming to go with some game themed dragshows. You can pickup tickets for Friday on Eventbrite.

Saturday

If you find yourself in Katoomba this Saturday (or just willing to make the trip from Sydney into the Blue Mountains) you can join in on Ettin Con. This one day event focuses on gaming in every form, from board to video and from roleplaying to card every type of gaming is celebrated. You can grab tickets to this twice yearly event from the official site.

If you notice an increase in the number of Furry suit wearing Cosplayers in Melbourne this weekend don’t freakout, it’s just Confurgence. The Melbourne Furry Convention happens this Friday til Sunday. It might not be for everyone but there is definitely a lot of stuff happening to go with it like panels, parties and other social events as it happens around the Amora Hotel Riverwalk.

Need something more Nerdlesque? Rosie Roulette hosts Geek Out – Return of the Nerds in Melbourne. Combining lightsabers, sonic screwdrivers, comedy and burlesque for your enjoyment this Friday. Grab some tickets via trybooking and try to resist the Optimus Prime food package if you can.

Saturday

If you missed out last year make your way to the National Penny Farthing Championships this Saturday. Yes the Winter Olympics cant hold a candle to this non-stop action as people on bikes with oversized wheels race around the streets of Evandale in Tasmania.

Go Medieval this weekend at Ballarat‘s Kryal Castle for some Medieval Horse Sports Australia. This Saturday and Sunday checkout the Horse Archery Competition at the Castle with skills worthy of any Avenger, Hunger Games contestant or Star City Mayor.

Sunday

The Melbourne Japanese Summer Festival is here again! This one day event celebrating all things Japanese is also a pretty good excuse to get your Cosplay on with your best dressed/favourite Cosplay also possibly netting you a prize in the official competition this Sunday in Melbourne.

And to wrap up your weekend have a helping of The Dude at Melbourne‘s Rooftop Cinemas. For one session only this Sunday catch The Big Lebowski in this Coen Brothers classic.

4. South Australia & Northern Territory

Wednesday

This Wednesday as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival expand your love of cat pictures on the internet with Catsanova. This art exhibition of painting and sculpture celebrates all things cats as this exhibition runs for the length of the festival.

Also at the Adelaide Fringe Festival this Wednesday and also running the for most of the Festival Thrones the Musical is the Game of Thrones parody you never knew you needed. Sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe this is a definite for any George RR. Martin fans.

Thursday

Friday

Continuing at the Adelaide Fringe Festival this Friday get your game on with Game Nights by BrainHackr. For the duration of the Festival every Friday and Saturday the BrainHackr will have a different game for play starting this week with Fight the Virus Night.

Nerdesque returns to the Adelaide Fringe Festival with Club Gotham: Villains of Vaudeville. This definitely 18+ event by the JustAss League is only for a limited number of shows to make sure you get your tickets early.

Saturday

Need a reason to head to Greenlight Comics this Saturday? Of course not but for anyone who does it’s Board Games Day this Saturday, happening every 3 months this is an all ages event for you to get your game on in Adelaide.

Want to combine your love of the rest of DC Comics and Burlesque this weekend? Missed Club Gotham? Get a ticket to Dawn of Justass: A DC Comics Burlesque tribute. Happening as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival, shows are also limited but get your tickets for this Saturday night.

Wands at the Ready is a Wizarding scavenger hunt with you solving cryptic clues and using spellcraft to solve puzzles in place sight as Adelaide‘s mystic defender. This 75 minute challenge set in the Rundle Mall is happening every Saturday for the duration of the Festival.

Wednesday

The Perth Artfactory is here to help you discover all the awesomeness you can do with Arduino’s with their fortnightly Arduino U. Bring your own Arduino (or find out how to borrow one) this Wednesday night.

Fringe World continues in Perth with a taste of burlesque for your Wednesday night with Steampunk Cabaret. It’s what happens when pistons meet corsets and it’s happening at the Red Room this Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Looking for something unique as part of Perth‘s Fringe World? How about a bootlegging themed Escape Room. Find yourself in a 1931 prohibition era speakeasy with only 45 minutes to hide the hooch before the cops raid it. Book your place before Fringe World is over.

Saturday

Continuing on Saturday (from Thursday) enjoy some more Studio Ghibli as part of the Perth Fringe World. This week catch Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Porco Rosso, for more check the full schedule.

Sunday

Monkey Collective and Luna Cinemas in Perth have another one of their fully immersive movie experiences this Sunday with The Princess Bride. This inconceivable event puts you in the movie in an interactive experience taking you to the world of Princess Buttercup and the Dread Pirate Roberts. This event is now sold out! Inconceivable!

And to wrap up your Sunday catch a roof top cinema screening of the final chapter of the Maze Runner series with The Death Cure. Playing at Perth‘s Rooftop Cinemas for one session only this Sunday, if you missed this in cinemas there is no better place to wrap up the trilogy.
