Continuing our run of Creators leading up to Sydney Supanova this week we talk to Project Eden: Vol 1 Creators Ashlee Jensen and Terrance M. Young!
You can catch a special screening of Project Eden this weekend at Sydney Supanova but first why not take 5 and learn a little more about the writer/director team behind it!
What are watching you right now? We are watching several Netflix series’ and films that continue to inspire Project Eden as a whole but also some of the intricacies of the story itself.
Though the first few episodes weren’t ideal, the CW show “The 100” continues to get darker in tone and the interplay between characters is outstanding. Definitely, some visual inspirations for this show have become evident in Project Eden as well. Also reading the outline and draft sequences for the script for Project Eden Volume 2 that is currently in development!
Who or what is Project Eden? Why is it important? Project Eden is a film that was purposefully cut in half and is being produced as “Vol. I and Vol. II”. The logline of the first film is: Aided by an ex-military officer, a young woman becomes an unwitting fugitive after discovering that her son’s catatonic state may be at the heart of a global conspiracy.
This is a story that needs to be told; it is set in a slightly more pessimistic version of our world if the events of 9/11 had culminated in far more dire circumstances for our planet. We really explore the themes of good and evil, or as this film poses it – Order and Chaos. We follow the story of a young woman who will do whatever it takes to get her son back but in the process is hit with some pretty major revelations that will ultimately reveal the meaning of life itself.
Project Eden: Vol. I is being released by Umbrella Entertainment here in Australia and New Zealand on August 2.
Apart from your movie what should everyone be looking out for in local Australian Pop Culture? There is some AMAZING independent sci-fi coming out of Australia right now. We are heading to Supanova Sydney this week and during that event, there is also another Queensland-based group producing a film called “Space/Time” that is currently in Post-Production. There’s also a few others like Luke Sparke’s Occupation, The Osiris Child (which just hit Cinemas last week) and another one called Blue World Order. All films definitely worth checking out!
Major prediction for Pop Culture 12 months from now? Pop Culture is an ever expanding template, but we must say with Disney having bought Lucasfilm and us now getting more Star Wars films, more Indiana Jones, coupled with all of the indie based content hitting the market. Events like Supanova, Armageddon, OzComicon etc are just going to explode in the next 12 months. That’s a guarantee!
Best last thing you ate? Last night, I had the BEST roast lamb and veggies with gravy that I have had in a long time! Kudos to the cook 😉
And that’s 5! You can catch a special screening of Project Eden Vol. I at Sydney Supanova this week or in full release on iTunes and Google Play on August 2nd.
