Look we know that there really hasn’t been too much Doctor Strange 2 info coming out in the last few months with all the hype surrounding No Way Home and what seemed to be a teaser trailer for Multiverse of Madness but if you were feeling like you needed a Doctor Strange hit fortunately for you the Superbowl delivered.
While the American Superbowl is usually known for some pretty big premieres and announcements in it’s ads with the cost of running an ad during the Superbowl being the equivalent of a space programme for some nations around the world there is probably no better time for Marvel to drop it’s latest. Originally slated for closer to a March (after being bumped from Nov 2021 for COVDI related reasons) the new trailer seals the new May release date as much as it can be.
For anyone not keeping up with things Phase 4 for Marvel seems to be everything Multiverse related after the events in the Loki series removing the blocks keeping the Multiverse at bay for the MCU. This lead to shows like What If being now possible in the continuity of the MCU (as changes in Loki occurred across all of space and time) and of course the infamous amount of crossover we saw in Spider-Man: No Way Home when Doctor Strange accidentally opened up the walls to the multiverse allowing [spoilers] to come into the MCU.
The Doctor Strange trailer looks to continue with the events set in motion from Far From Home with Strange dealing with the consequences. This was teased a little at the end of No Way Home’s end of credit sequence but this trailer takes it a bit further and shows this is a little more than the Multiverse coming into the MCU but rather Strange heading into the Multiverse and Shuma-Gorath getting renamed is now one of the most minor things to obsess over.
Right from the get go in this trailer we see a visual plethora that seems to build on the visuals we saw during the first Doctor Strange and taking from the pages of a Steve Ditko panel. Bouncing between Strange’s defenders made up of Wanda and America Chavez we see teases of other worlds with Strange being escorted by Ultron/Iron Legion type drones and talking to what might be the MCU Illuminati (the secret cabal in the comics made up of Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, Iron Man, Charles Xavier, Namor and Black Panther) and if you you want to go in cold you might want to not hear the voice we thought we heard.
