It’s no secret that it has been a slow year for Disney with a lot of film and TV projects being delayed due to Pandemic reasons and no SDCC Hall H bombshells. With the exception of Disney+ and the Mandalorian it has been a little bit of a downturn for Disney this year but as a major company with Shareholders, Disney just gave their Investor Day update and outlined future plans and…. Oh my, it’s a lot.
You have to remember this is an investor day event not really a press conference or major comic con presentation to build hype so details are little but lets cover what we can..
Star Wars
- Rogue Squadron confirmed as a Star Wars film for Christmas of 2023
- Clone Wars’ Bad Batch is getting a spun out as a series from the Clone Wars
- Acolyte is a High Republic era mytery thriller following the Dark Side
- LANDO series in the works
- Taika Waititi Star Wars film still part of the future slate but still unnamed
- Star Wars Visions is an anime style short film series
- Rangers of the New Republic to take the Mandalorians Cara Dune as a Disney+ series
- Asoka live action series continuing Rosario Dawson with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni
- Star Wars Droids series with a new droid who is mentored by R2-D2 and C-3PO
- Hayden Christensen will be appearing in the Kenobi live action film as Vader

- The next Indiana Jones file was confirmed for mid 2022
- A series based on the movie Willow is in the works
- Children of Blood and Bone to be adapted into a film by Lucasfilm

- Emma Stone to star in Cruilla live action film
- Peter Pan & Wendy film with Jude Law playing Captain Hook
- Pinocchio to be the next live action adaption with Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis
- Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers will be a Disney+ quasi-live action original movie
- Diary of a Wimpy Kid animated movie for Disney+
- Live Action prequel to the Lion King in development
- Live Action Little Mermaid confirmed
- Cheaper by the Dozen is being remade + Three Men and a Baby with Zac Efron going ahead both for Disney+
- Flora and Ulysses is a live action Disney+ series about a girl with a super-powered squirrel sidekick (though we still hold out hope for Squirrel Girl)

Pixar
- Baymax the series for Disney+ as a picking up point from Big Hero Six the film (not the animated series) in 2022
- Zootopia Plus to be a series of shorts as a Disney+ series
- Moana as ongoing series
- Iwaju as a new series has some heavy Wakanda influence without being in the Marvel Universe
- Raya and the Last Dragon will be released in cinemas and as ‘premiere access’ on Disney+ on March 5th, 2021
- Encanto to be Pixar’s next major film to be released in 2021, a musical with Lin Manuel Miranda
- Doug (the Dog) from Up to return in a Pixar series
- Pixar’s Cars/Lightning McQueen also to get a series
- Win or Lose is a Disney+ Pixar series follows the same week from 2 different points of view
- Luca announced as an original film set in the Italian seaside for June 2021
- Turning Red (of a girl who turns into a giant panda when she gets angry) and Lightyear is a Buzz Lightyear epic origin story blockbuster Sci-Fi film with Chris Evans for 2022
Marvel Studios
- Wandavision still set to be the first MCU Disney+ series and a new trailer
- Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will have America Chavez aka Miss America
- New Spider-Man film confirmed for December 2021
- Falcon and the Winter Soldier (that was to be the first Disney+ series) first look
- Black Widow confirmed (again) for May 2021 in cinemas not streaming
- Loki series got a first look with it following the Loki from Endgame with just a few references to the comics
- What If…? the Marvel Animated series that follows the Elseworlds take on much of the MCU is set for next year and a trailer was shown off for this too with more than a few characters we thought we would not see again with The Watcher as guide
- Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has wrapped production
- Ms Marvel casting confirmed with an early look as a featurette showing off casting and that it will follow the source material quite a bit in the Disney+ series
- Captain Marvel 2 will include Ms Marvel
- Eternals set for theatrical release in 2021
- Hawkeye update including confirmed casting with Bumblebee Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop (and Jeremy Renner did post a very Pizza Dog looking picture from the set)View this post on Instagram
- She Hulk will be played Tatiana Maslany (confirmed this time) with Tim Roth from The Hulk returning as Abomination (and a hint of other legal related Marvel characters may appear *cough Daredevil*)
- Moon Knight was mentioned as still being worked on but no updates yet. We are still holding out for Keanu Reeves being cast as Marc Spector
- Secret Invasion will be Disney+ series with Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) and Ben Mendelsohn to be a series that will link many of the MCU films going forward
- Ironheart confirmed as a series following RiRi Williams
- The Iron Man story Armor Wars is in the works to be adapted with Don Cheadle returning as War Machine/Rhodey
- Live Action Holiday special with Guardians of the Galaxy with James Gunn writing/directing and will release holidays before the next Guardians film
- Baby Groot to get a Disney+ short series
- Thor 3 to start filming in January with Christan Bale confirmed villain (and not Beta Ray Bill)
- Blade still moving forward but in development as a feature film
- Ant-Man 3 to be titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will have Kang the Conqueror
- Black Panther has been confirmed as not being recast with the loss of Chadwick Bosman but Black Panther 2 will be going ahead in 2022
- Fantastic Four film confirmed as in production with Spider-Man director Jon Watts
And that is it. Expect a lot more about these as the world moves back to normal and dates can be set more reliably but that is a LOT with the Star Wars announcements probably taking us to nearly the end of the decade and Marvel being across the next 2 phases with Fantastic Four being mentioned.
