It was 2 years ago when Netflix first announced that it had committed to a sequel to the Dark Crystal and while that seemed like a long way away the day we have been waiting on is fast approaching as announced through the first proper trailer for the series that dropped overnight.
Based on the Jim Henson film by the same name, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance has been confirmed for release onto Netflix on August 30th this year (that is only 3 months away!). Slipping from its original planned date of 2018 the 10 part series much like the film will have Gelflings take the central role (although not the same Gelflings) against the antagonists from the original 1982 film the Skeksis.
From what we know of the next chapter is that while it will still be by the Jim Henson company and remains true to the original with practical effects and puppets being used throughout there is a cast change with some big names in the credits already like Mark Hamil, Helena Bonham Carter, Eddie Izzard, Taron Egerton and Natalie Dormer to name a few who are credited across all 10 episodes.
You can watch the full trailer below and then make sure you tell us what you think. Are you excited for new Dark Crystal? Would you like to see a return to other non-Muppet Jim Henson films like a sequel to Labyrinth? Are you secretly hoping for a Frank Oz cameo? Let us know in the comments down below!
