Yes! It is finally happening! After so many false hopes of a live-action adaption of our favourite bounty hunters Netflix has just announced they are teaming up with Tomorrow Studios to bring a live action version of Cowboy Bebop to Netflix as a joint production with Netflix handling the physical production.
For anyone who doesn’t know Cowboy Bebop was a 20 episode (and a movie) anime series set in the near future following the bounty hunting crew of the Bebop as they travel around the solar system. First airing in 1997 it is held by many as the pinnacle of anime, Bebop coming to live action is something that has been teased multiple times over the last decade or so with even Keanu Reeves being attached for a live action version in 2008.
Before we get too excited this was only announced today so details are very few and we are not expecting to see anything onscreen of the 10 episode live action series until late 2019 at the earliest. We are expecting to see multiple talents on the series with Christopher Yost (writer on Thor the Dark World and Ragnarok) to write/direct the first episode but feel that this series will stay true to the original with the director of the original series, Shinichiro Watanabe, being brought on as a consultant.
That is all the details we have for now but you can be sure we will be watching for official announcements from Netflix. See you Space Cowboy.
