Outdoor Cinemas, Tasmanian Sword Fighting, Zombie Musicals and Shark Week. We might be headed for the end of the year but there is still tons on across Australia for you this Week in Geek.

1. Queensland

Wednesday

To start your week if you are a Foxtel Subscriber then it is Shark Week. If you are a Shark Week fan chances are you don’t need to look at what else is on this week because you now have plans.

Thursday

This Thursday in Cinemas pick from the 9th instalment in the Rocky franchise with Creed II or something a little more Dr Seuss with The Grinch. They are both in cinemas across the country for you to get in touch with your inner Killmonger or Who.

The Event Cinemas Moonlight Cinemas returns to Brisbane this week just in time for the summer heat. This Thursday catch the most recent instalment of the Mission Impossible series with Mission Impossible: Fallout. Tickets are available online now.

Friday

On Netflix this Friday you can start your Christmas binging early with the sequel to A Christmas Prince (it’s ok, this is a safe space. No judgement here) or the new season of the 1970’s set animated series – F is for Family with Jurassic Park’s Laura Dern.

It’s Retro Game Night in Rockhampton this Friday night and they are kicking it board game style. Swap Super Mario for the best of Milton Bradley and the Parker Bros. with Monopoly, Cluedo and just a little Nintendo 64 mixed in for good measure. It’s open to everyone but to reserve a table for you and your friends make sure you contact Hendrick’s Lane via the Event page.

Right after work head straight to Metro Arts in Brisbane for the perfect after-work movie – Office Space. Staplers won’t be provided so make sure you take your own for this awesome film from Silicon Valley creator Mike Judge. But that isn’t all this Friday with one of the best Comic Book adaptions ever – Tank Girl. See one, or see them all this Friday.

Saturday

You got a friend at the Palace Barracks Cinemas in Brisbane on Saturday (and Sunday) for the Flashback Family films with the original Toy Story. With the new Toy Story due out next year re-watch the original 1995 film that started it all for Pixar this weekend.

This Saturday, see the next chapter of the Skywalker saga with Empire Strikes Back performed by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Playing for 2 performances only at the Brisbane Convention Centre the orchestra will play the John Williams score as you enjoy the film played on the big screen. Warning, you may want to see all your movies like this afterwards.

Sunday

Been playing the new Pokemon Let’s Go on Switch non-stop? Take a break on Sunday with the anticipated new Pokemon Movie, Pokemon: The Power of Us. Playing at limited Event Cinemas around the country starting this Sunday check your local listing for availability and times.

Finish up Sunday with more close encounters at Netherworld in Brisbane for Two-Bit Movie Club. This week see the abduction double feature of Communion with Christopher Walken and Fire In The Sky. It’s playing in the Arcade room and it’s completely free.

2. New South Wales & ACT

Your Friday dose of horror continues at the Palace Cinemas Sydney with 666 Fridays. This week see the questionable Videodrome from Canadian Director, David Cronenberg who was behind Scanners and Jeff Goldblum’s The Fly.

Before there was Zoolander we had Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. Wednesday at the Lido Cinemas in Melbourne get a dose of 90’s Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino in this dumbtastic film. Seriously it’s worth it just for the pre-2000 soundtrack that includes that other song by Rick Astley.

Playing both Saturday and Sunday this weekend only and only in 3D dive straight into all things Xmas with this film directed by Back to the Future’s Robert Zemeckis.

Sunday

The Lido isn’t just for movies this week with a call for adventurers this Sunday.
