Over ten years and nineteen movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken us on an epic journey. From the first time Iron Man suited up, earth’s mightiest have gradually come together from across the globe, space, and time to protect the humble inhabitants of a universe that is under constant threat of falling buildings, floating cities, and alien invasion. The MCU has touted Avengers: Infinity War as the climactic beginning to the last act for our current roster of superheroes. So naturally we expected something next-level in this film, and we got it! Don’t worry we will not divulge any spoilers here, so you can read on with confidence!

Most of the current roster of Avengers have each appeared in their own films, creating a rich world of relatable characters. So uniting these characters from across the entire franchise was a big undertaking, and you might be wondering how they could squeeze enough screen time and substance in to a meagre 2 and a half hours. It must be some Stephen Strange-level sorcery, or it is just the mighty fine writing and some genius forward-planning, because this film balances character development, dialogue, and action absolutely perfectly.

You can expect the humour, and relatable tone which you have come to love, especially when some of these characters meet for the first time. Ask yourself, is there room enough in the universe for the egos of Thor and Peter Quill? The MCU has done a fantastic job of setting up this universe, and it is hard not to squeal with glee when worlds collide! Despite having a cast of 20-odd well rounded characters who can carry an epic tale on their own, nothing is lost in the depth of character interactions.

You can also expect more action sequences than ever before. Some of our A-list superheroes can withstand just about anything that comes at them, and Infinity War definitely puts this to the test! There are battles that makes events in the previous movies look like walks in the park.

The Mad Titan and his cronies don’t roll over easily, but the Avengers have yet to encounter a baddie who could throw a small moon at them. What is most surprising is that Thanos is a villain with depth of character beyond simply the want to kill and maim.

Finally, you should definitely go in to the theatre expecting the unexpected, because this film is absolutely jam-packed with curve-balls! The big question is, does the ten years of build-up actually pay off in the end, and the answer is a resounding yes!

Of course, don’t vacate your seat too early as there is a post-credits scene you will not want to miss!

Avengers: Infinity War opens this week across Australia.

movie-review-avengers-infinity-warIt is hard to say if Infinity War tops the previous two Avengers films, given that the scope and scale is blown completely out of the cosmos. The super friends battle a foe who is more formidable than any who have come before, and are put to the a test that quite literally shakes up the entire franchise. Needless to say, it would be pretty hard to dive into this film if you have not already absorbed at least the previous two Avengers films, if not the entire catalogue. If you are an MCU fan, then whatever your expectations are, it is likely that they will be met.
