What a week! Anyone feeling the end of February like I am? Well, like Threepio says “Thank the Maker!” because today is Friday! So surprise! CosFriday is go! This week our featured cosplayer is another of our featured cosplayers from our 2018 Charity Calendar raising money for beyondblue (available to order now but very few left).

Coming to us from the Eastern seaboard in Sunny South-East Queensland is Rebirth from Rebirth Cosplay! Rebirth is based in the Brisbane/Gold Coast area and started out with their Luke Triton from the Professor Layton series and has since branched into Anime, Comics, TV Shows and Movies!

What’s your name & how old are you? My name’s Rebirth and I’m 22!

How long have you been cosplaying? I’ve been cosplaying for around 8 or so years. I’m not 100% sure when I started but it was quite some time ago.

What inspired you to start cosplaying? When I went to my first convention I had little to no idea what cosplay was. But after spending a day watching all these people have fun and sitting in on a cosplay competition, I had to try it for myself. When I first cosplayed, it was fun to escape reality for a bit. Over the years I have developed a love for sewing and a joy in making a character that was once just a dream or idea into something physical.

What was your First Cosplay? My first cosplay was Luke Triton from the Professor Layton game series. I debuted him at Perth Supanova in 2009, I think it was. My costume was a mess of random op shop items and hot glue, but I had a lot of fun.

What is your most recent cosplay? Lance from Voltron Legendary Defender. This boy has a special place in my heart.

What cosplays are you currently working on? Sven from Voltron Legendary Defender and a remake of my Percival Graves jacket and shoe covers from Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

Who are your favourite cosplayers in the community? One of my favourites has got to be Chaotic King! Their makeup and wig skills are incredible and our similar interests mean we do a lot of collaborative projects together. Their cosplays are always on fleak. The time and effort they put into their content is amazing.

Username Cosplay is another one of my faves. His skits never cease to make me laugh and I admire the way he gives every performance his all. We got to work together on the skit Ace Attorney: Civil War at Smash 2017 and it’s seriously one of my best cosplay memories.

Elvis Ditto is one of the best guys I know. The confidence and energy he puts into every character he cosplays is infectious! His Frank-N-Furter is on point 👌

Who else do you want to cosplay? I have so many cosplans it’s not even funny. Some people think cosplaying for years lessens your bucket list but trust me; it doesn’t. A big one I’d like to do is Wild Tiger’s Hero Suit (Armoured) from Tiger and Bunny. I’d also like to cosplay All Might from My Hero Academia because I basically fell in love with him as soon as I saw him.

Tell us an odd fact about yourself! I taught myself to sew when I was only 14 and have since taken several courses.
