So, what is this steampunk thing anyway?

Well, in simple terms steampunk is a genre of science fiction that has a historical setting which typically features steam powered machinery rather than advanced technology but in reality it has grown to be much more than this.

Steampunk as a genre is most commonly set in an alternate and sometimes dystopian version of the 19th century British Victorian era or American ‘wild west’ where steam powered devices have been retained in normal usage.

Retrofuturistic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them feature heavily in this genre as do the era’s perspectives on fashion, art, architecture and culture.
