This week feels like managing a roster of hat-wearing amphibians while trying to avoid a “world champion” title for a game you’ve definitely played before, all before dodging some bears to ride dragons through an abyss and pointing plastic handguns at the screen to blast a few Goomin. But before we get to the full list of new games, here are your highlights:
MLB The Show 26 slides onto Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation this Tuesday. It is the annual update where you can become a “world champion” without actually playing other countries (assuming you are into the whole same game but with a new roster thing). This version adds some college ball and a new pitching mechanic for when you actually need to focus, but mostly it is just another chance to collect cards and manage a virtual front office. If you are excited for this one you probably have every edition since you first picked it up.
BANG! BANG! BANDITS hits Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2 this Thursday. Think Point Blank but for your shiney Nintendo Switch where you point Joy-Cons at the screen to blast “Goomin” across jungles and ruins (which is great because you have zero bullet limits to worry about). It is a pretty simple, pop-colored time that lets four players jump into the chaos together with just one copy of the game.
Crimson Desert arrives on Xbox this Thursday and Steam on Friday. It is an open world adventure where you play as a mercenary named Kliff who spends his time riding horses and rebuilding a faction after a nasty ambush by some “Black Bears.” You can explore a pretty cool landscape ranging from deserts to a mysterious Abyss while occasionally taking a break from the visceral combat to fish or brew dyes for your tattoos. Red Dead-like but Fantasy (and not by Rockstar).
Honourable Mention:Â And our honourable mention is Bonnie Bear Saves Frogtime, hopping onto Steam this Monday and Nintendo Switch on Tuesday. It is a wholesome tactical battler for when you need to chill out and manage a roster of frogs (which you can put hats on, because of course you can). It is a fully voice-acted trip that features exactly twelve heartfelt moments about self-worth and a skeleton man of entirely average proportions.
