This week in New Games Releases is a dystopian sandbox, a spice-fuelled survival grind, a philosophical clone crisis, and one more animatronic horror trip round out a week where the vibes are mostly bleak, sandy, or screaming. But before we get to the full list, here are your highlights:
MindsEye rolls onto Xbox Tuesday and everywhere else Wednesday, offering up a glossy new open-world dystopia for anyone still salty there’s no new GTA this year. Directed by former Rockstar heavyweight Leslie Benzies, it’s all neural implants, shady tech billionaires, and high-speed shootouts in a desert city where the future went very sideways. Basically conspiracy, chaos, and robot trouble in one cinematic package.
Dune: Awakening stirs the spice this Wednesday on Steam, bringing Arrakis back just in time for everyone still buzzing from Dune: Part Two. It’s a giant, shared-world multiplayer survival RPG where you build your base, tame sandworms (eventually), and choose whether to fight for the Atreides, the Harkonnen, or just yourself. PvP is optional, but the politics aren’t. Only on PC for now and probably for the best, since this one looks like it’s meant to be inhaled in long, sandy sessions from your battle-rig.
The Alters lands Friday on Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, and Epic with a concept that’s as existential as it is sci-fi: you’re the only survivor of a space mission gone wrong… so you clone alternate versions of yourself to help you survive. It’s part third-person survival sim, part mobile base-builder, part emotional spiral, and somewhere in there is a philosophical panic attack disguised as resource management. Think Fallout Shelter meets 3rd person alien planet survival sim meets what if your worst life choices came back to work with you.
Honourable Mention: And our honourable mention this week goes to Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic, creeping onto Steam and Epic this Saturday with another animatronic fever dream for the diehards. You know this game, it is the version of Disneyland where the Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down and the pirates eat the guests.
