1RED BEFORE BLACK #1 (OF 6)
Sitting somewhere between Birds of Prey and Killing Even with a hint of Harley & Ivy (and from Harley Quinn writer Stephanie Phillips) is this hyper kinetic crime thriller taking a page out of early 2000s Vertigo comics. A FBI Agent + drug runner meet cute that turns a little more bonnie and clyde.
2UNCANNY X-MEN #1
Relaunching for From the Ashes in the post Krakoa age X-books is the Uncanny X-Men with writer Gail Simone taking over this book. One of multiple books from the new X line up with completely separate teams operating in different parts of the world. If you were looking for the Wolverine/Rogue/Gambit/Nightcrawler book you have found it. A word of warning though with this issue doing the QR code thing for the final page (we will cover what that means soon).
3PRODIGY SLAVES OF MARS #1
While the Prodigy series isn’t new to the Mark Millar-verse, we wanted to highlight its latest release this week because it’s now published by Dark Horse instead of Image Comics. Since Dark Horse’s sale in 2021, we’ve seen an influx of big names joining the imprint, signalling that Dark Horse is going all out.
4ARKHAM HORROR TERROR AT END OF TIME #1
Well known to Marvel readers Cullun Bunn is no stranger to gothic horror even being nominated for the Bram Stroker award for The Sixth Gunn. Mixing gumshoe detectives with eldritch horror this is the first book in a new Arkham Horror universe and again, coming out of Dark Horse Comics.
5ABSOLUTE POWER #2
And finally we would remiss not to mention it because event books have become so common that it is easy to skip and miss out. But we picked up the first issue of Absolute Power coming from Mark Waid and Dan Mora and this is what we want in event books with threads from Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman (and Titans + Green Arrow) books leading directly into this one. With tie-ins across other titles if you are a DC reader this is not an opt out one.
