SDCC 2024: Day Two Wrap-up

And we are nearly done with San Diego International Comic-Con Day Two now complete. While there were a lot of Comics, TV news still dropping every one was waiting for the big Marvel Studios panel in Hall H for SDCC 2024 to close out the day with Deadpool and Wolverine having their own separate panel on Thursday/Day Zero.

We still have one more day to go with the close out for SDCC 2024 but you can still catch up on everything else that happened in our Day One wrap-up.

Movies

• Marvel was the big Hall H panel closing out SDCC Day Two starting with the next film to release Captain America: Brave New World in February and revealed:
  • Giancarlo Esposito will be playing an existing character that has been MCU’d-up – Sidewinder of the Serpents Society.
  • Footage of Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross (who was at the panel) talking directly about the Celestial still left from The Eternals was shown.
  • It was also confirmed that Celestials are made from Adamantium in the MCU.
• Thunderbolts was next and still sporting an asterix next to the title ran through a few confirmations with:
  • Sentry to appear (sporting the classic Bob Reynolds look
  • The full cast was brought out with David Harbour dressed as Red Guardian and in character
  • And a first footage was played inside of Hall H with it sounding like the new Thunderbolts interacting inside of the former Avengers Tower
• Fantastic Four followed Thunderbolts and while it comes out next year shooting only begins this week Matt Shakman took to the stage to confirm a few things:
  • It will be set against a retro futuristic 1960s New York City
  • Yes the Fantasticar will appear but as an old school Cadillac not the Bathtub model which arrived on stage along with the cast
  • Some footage of Galactus peering in a building was shown for Hall H
  •  The film is now named “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” and the FF will appear in the next Avengers films
    
• The Russo Bros appeared on stage to talk about directing the next two Avengers films:
  • One is titled Avengers: Secret Wars for May 2027 and sporting a hot rod red colour scheme
  • And the other now called Avengers: Doomsday for May 2026 with ROBERT FRICKEN DOWNEY JR TO PLAY DOCTOR DOOM (here is the moments before the reveal too) – it is important to note the Russo’s did say this is only possible thanks to the Multiverse
    
• The Batman Part 2 will begin filming soon as mentioned at The Penguin panel
• James Gunn shared the video that played before the reveal of the new DC Logo and why it looks like one we have seen before
• Section 31 us a spy thriller movie set in the Star Trek Universe still proceeding at Paramount+ and with Michelle Yeoh in the cast
• The Mike Mignola documentary Drawing Monsters is on the way with a trailer released by the man himself.
• Also a trailer for the Kingdom Come Documentary shared by Alex Ross
• The next Moral Kombat movie is still on track for cinemas next year
• A BRZRKR movie is still moving ahead and looks to be on Netflix (separate from the animated series announced)

Television

• We got a new trailer for The Penguin for SDCC weekend
• Final Decks Season 5 is the final season and an official teaser trailer was released
• We got a 5 minute clip from the next season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
• Doctor Who and Star Trek shared a stand at SDCC so Star Trek’s official YouTube has put out a Star Trek x Doctor Who Mashup
• The Animation Panel had a American Dad mashup trailer for the upcoming season and for Family Guy
• A new Star Trek show is in the works – Star Fleet Academy with some of the cast confirmed making it look like the continuation for Discovery
• Kite-Man will bridge the gap until we get Harley Quinn Season 5 in November
• Another upcoming show clip with Superman and Lois for the Superman/Doomsday fight
• The first look at Wynonna Earp: Vengeance is a poster for it being a Tubi Original
• An Animated series for Keanu Reeve’s comic BRZRKR is in the works at Netflix (separate from the movie talked about)
• My Adventures with Superman Season 3 is happening and Superboy was revealed at the Panel
• Season 4 of Abbott Elementary will crossover with another ABC show
• Silo Season 2 is coming to Apple TV in November
• Michael C Hall is returning to Dexter with Original Sin (prequel series with a trailer yesterday) and Resurrection
• Blood of Zeus has been renewed for a third season at Netflix

Comics

• As part of the X-Books panel for Marvel new Psylocke book was confirmed and some new pages for the new Mystique book was shown in addition to a bunch of covers for the post Kraokan age ‘From the Ashes‘
• Mega Man (the blue video game one) is getting comics in 2025
• There was a panel for the Long Halloween: The Last Halloween which is on track to be released at the end of September to conclude the trilogy
• The Keanu showed up to the BRZRKR panel (there is a new BRZRKR out with Jason Aaron writing it this week), another BRZRKR book ‘The Last Book of B’ is heading to your LCS at the end of August
• Joe Quesada announced a new comic company – Amazing Comics
• At DC Green Lantern Civil Corps Special #1 showed all the earth born GLs together and sporting Green Rings again
• A Poison Ivy and Swamp Thing crossover is coming in October
• Action Comics #1070-1073 will be on sale weekly in October
• Ram V will be writing New Gods, and also during the DC panel something Cosmic was teased as happening after Absolute Power which may be related
• A new JSA  relaunch (after the delayed Geoff Johns limited series) will be penned by Jeff Lemire
• Boom Studios announced some creator projects coming with Mark Waid and Greg Pak

Gaming

• Wizards of the Coast (under Hasbro) unveilled the “coziest” Magic the Gathering set – Bloomburrow
• Alien Rogue Incursion is a VR exclusive for MetaQuest 3, PSVR2 and Steam VR with a SDCC panel today going through some of the games details and weapons you use (yes you get weapons it is not a strictly survival Alien VR game this time

Collectibles

• Hasbro have some new Black Series FX Elite Lightsabers with a new Ashoka one
• There are some BRZRKR toys on the way from McFarlane Toys
• Mezco Toyz have a series 2 of Batman: The Animated Series figures coming with Mr Freeze, Harley Quinn, Two-Face and Batman on a Batcycle
