Comic Pull List – Jul 4

Happy New Comics Day! Welcome to the comics Pull List, where you will find all the new releases for this week. So if you are searching for something new to read, or just want to know what’s fresh, here are some highlights!

Starting off let’s get the obvious one out of the way with the DC Event for this year Absolute Power kicking off. This one does have a little bit of a different feel to it with the setup across multiple titles in the DCU rather than just a random event coming out of nowhere and dropping for every title. Last week we mentioned the #0 book but this is the main event with Batman #150 also out this week being a featured tie-in

If you are a Spidey fan you might be familiar with the Dark Knight Returns book of Spider-Man, Reign. Set in the future where Spidey is much older it is one of the most controversial Spider-books by far (If you don’t believe us, google ‘Mary-Jane cancer from radioactive semen’) it is getting a sequel with the writer/artist from the 2005 series returning to give more of this bleak version of Spidey’s future including what happened to Miles Morales.

There is not one but TWO Wolverine books we want to mention but as not to monopolise your comic pull list planning time – The Life of Wolverine #1 is a retelling of the complete timeline of Wolverine, from the 1800s to WW2 with Captain America to Weapon X and modern day. What is so special about that? It is being told in Chronological Order for the first time by Jim Zub  The OTHER Wolverine book we want to mention is Wolverine: Deep Cut #1, and the TLDR is that it fills in a time when Wolverine sets off on his own in the Australian outback from back in Uncanny X-Men #246. This circa 1988 tale is also being written by Chris Claremont, the X-Men writer of the time (and a lot of major X-arcs).

From Astro City’s Kurt Busiek is a new ongoing series of a team of young veterans of an intergalactic war finding themselves stranded on earth. Now free agents for the first time but the fallout from the war is returning to threaten their chance at a better life.

A little more out there is this new series that is Rick and Morty/Tron based on a new animated series on YouTube where video games secretly power everything. The series has featured voice talents such as Paget Brewster (Community), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and Chris Parnell (Rick and Morty) so you can check out it out on YouTube before deciding to pick up this one which has a team fighting in a virtual space to prevent catastrophic consequences in the real world.
