Ok so we are pretty good at not covering spoilers for you, or at the very least try to do so to give you every opportunity to skip ahead but the new Shang-Chi Trailer dropped something in the tail end that is more than a huge spoiler with something or someone appearing that we have not seen since Phase One of the MCU.

Ok so to give you a quick summary the new trailer gives a lot more detail about what we can expect from the upcoming MCU film, while there is a LOT of action, way more than the previous trailer suggested with multiple action set pieces crammed into this only 2 minute long trailer there is a couple of things in the last 30 seconds that we probably could have done without knowing until the film hit cinemas.

On the story side we can see Shang-Chi just like his comic counterpart’s origin will be centred around his Father, who in the comics was Dr Fu Manchu as a character that Marvel were able to license during that period with the original concept for Shang-Chi actually being a Bruce Lee comic (but when that fell through Dr Fu Manchu became the starting point with Shang-Chi being his son who learnt that his father was not who he thought he was). Not originally having relevance to the 10 rings which have been long associated with the Mandarin as alien technology in the trailer we see the 10 rings are arm worn power bands that give some pretty destructive powers.

We are going to drop the trailer right here if you want to watch but if you want to watch without spoilers we would recommend only watching the first minute to minute and a half. It’s a risk, so it’s on you. Black Widow is only 2 weeks away and Loki is streaming on Disney+ if you really need a MCU fix.

Ok good? Now do you want to know some spoilers? Because if you do you are going to have to scroll down.

Still here? Ok well we warned you. In the last 30 seconds of the trailer we see not one but possibly two pretty big reveals. The first being what looks to be a Dragon in an underwater segment, this could be one of two major dragons within the Marvel Universe – The first being Shou-Lao, the mythical dragon of K’un-Lun who the Iron Fist defeats to gain his powers by punching his molten heart. The one seems a bit unlikely as K’un-Lun is more of a frozen mountain top type place and not really the swimming sort. The second more likely answer is the dragon is Fin Fang Foom who does have some connections (comic history wise) to the 10 rings through the Mandarin. Fin Fang Foom is an Alien (Makluan to be precise) whose origin planet was the same as the 10 rings used by the Mandarin.

The second reveal is much of a blink and you will miss it but it the undeniable image of Emil Blonsky, The Abomination in a cage match vs Wong (Benedict Wong was spotted in Sydney last year). The Abomination first appeared in the MCU continuity with the Edward Norton Hulk movie, while it is debated if this is part of continuity due to the licensing with Universal we believe it is included due to the post credits scene with Tony Stark. This end credits scene was further cemented through the Marvel One Shots which are officially the last we had heard of Blonsky.

In the One Shot – ‘The Consultant’ which was part of the DVD extras on Thor Agents Sitwell and Coulson meet to discuss a meeting between General Thunderbolt Ross (who appeared in Hulk, Civil War, Infinity War and End Game) and Tony Stark. In the wrap up it was confirmed that SHIELD had Abomination and were taking him to a holding facility (SHIELD of course later being disbanded as part of the events from Captain America: Winter Soldier.

And that is pretty much it. If you managed to avoid the spoiler great but if you wanted to get everything in your eyeballs then that is on you (just try not to spoil it for anyone else).

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is still locked into Australia Cinemas later this year on September 2nd.
