New Mortal Kombat Trailer Brings all the Fatalities and None of the Techno Soundtrack

We might not be getting HBO Max here in Australia but with the US Warner Bros streaming platform aiming to take up the slack for cinema releases while they are still in a pandemic it means a lot less delays for cinema releases for us. While dates shifting is a reality even without everything going on (check out our Australian Geek Event Calendar for the latest confirmed dates) we just got another confirmation with the first trailer for Mortal Kombat!

If you heard techno right after the words just then you are probably a fan of the 1995 film directed by Resident Evil/Monster Hunter director Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Highlander Christopher Lambert as the other God of Thunder, Raiden. Based on the video game from the same decade and continuing with many sequels to today if you don’t know what we are talking about you probably have never had a friend rocking in a dizzy state while you feverishly decide between a Fatality, Brutality, Babality or maybe a Friendship.

The newest Mortal Kombat adaption to the big screen has been made possible in the last year thanks to shooting in South Australia which means yes you will see some Australian Actors in the film including House of Lies/Anchorman Actor/Comedian Josh Lawson playing the cyborg Kano. The film itself is yet to be rated but you can expect a fairly high M or even R rating with the trailer already being age restricted for showing just a couple of onscreen fatalities.

You can check out the full trailer below (after you jump across to YouTube to click through the age gate) and then tell us what you think. Are you excited for some Mortal Kombat? Which fighter are you most excited to see or hope gets a character select? Babality or Animality? Tell us in the comments below.

Mortal Kombat hits Australian Cinemas April 15th this year
