Pin, Staple, Velcro, Stitch or Sew when you have a Cosplay related blowout at a Con Cosplay Repair can save your weekend (and your hard Cosplay work too). This week in a very special Cos-Repair-Day we step behind the repair curtain and talk to a master of the Hot Glue gun – Martin the Cosplay Repair Guy.

What’s your name & how old are you? Martin the Cosplay Repair Guy – 45 years old

How long have you been cosplaying? Since I was about 6, I guess?

What inspired you to start cosplaying? I have always enjoyed drama, and cosplay was a natural follow-on from that. I wasn’t really aware that what I was doing was cosplay, we just thought it was ‘dressing up’ at the time.

What was your First Cosplay? Prince Charming from Sleeping Beauty. I wore a remade jockey’s vest and had a wooden sword.

What is your most recent cosplay? These days, I like to help other people cosplay, hence my ‘repair guy’ persona. I enjoy the industrial look of Steampunk, and often do that when I’m running my repair trolley.

What cosplays are you currently working on? I’ve got a long-term project for some Babylon 5 cosplays, but right now I should probably keep that a bit shush.

Who are your favourite cosplayers in the community? Whew. Who do I name without forgetting? Major Sam, Black Apple, CB Studios, AK Wirru… um… I_Artemis_I… uh… hey everyone! I love you all!

Who else do you want to cosplay? I’d like to get more into armoured cosplay, especially large suits. A Warhammer 40k Tau Crisis suit, properly sized, would be amazing.

Tell us an odd fact about yourself! I was taught the three laws of robotics by Isaac Asimov when I was a kid. I didn’t know who he was and I thought the laws were silly at the time.

Are you in need of some Cospl-Aid? If you are at Brisbane Supanova from today and across the weekend don’t forget to stop by the Cosplay Repair area for a quick emergency patch-job to help you keep going with your Con-experience OR follow Martin on Facebook Facebook to find out the next Con you can see him at!
