This Week in Games: Jun 8 – 13

This week in new games, between managing housing in the clouds, hitting street hoops like it’s the 90s, cooking up monster-fighting card decks, and surviving space hazards with the crew, it feels like this week is all about choosing whether you want to save the world, sink some shots, eat your way to victory, or just embrace the absolute co-op madness. But before we get to the full list, here are your highlights:

Solarpunk drops on the Epic Games Store, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch this Monday, and it’s also hitting Steam that same day. Solving the housing crisis by building on the type of geography that is normally reserved for blue cat people and James Cameron, you can build a home base, grow food, and set up automation systems etc but a little more plug and play than Minecraft.

NBA THE RUN drops on Xbox this Tuesday, then hits PlayStation and Steam on Wednesday. It is a fast-paced 3v3 online street basketball game where you take NBA stars to famous courts like Venice Beach for knockout tournaments. Honestly, it totally gives off NBA Jam vibes and you won’t even have to dust off your SEGA Megadrive or SNES to play it.

Beastro plates up on the Epic Games Store this Thursday before hitting PlayStation and Steam on Friday. It is a bit of a mixed bag of cozy management and turn-based combat where you play as a chef named Panko gathering fresh ingredients and playing cooking mini-games to feed hungry adventurers. The specific meals you cook actually build their card decks for fighting monsters in the wild (so yes, you could sink some time into this).

Honourable Mention: And our honourable mention is Starseeker, which hits Xbox early access and Steam this Saturday (it is a spin-off of the Astroneer series). You and your buddies crew the ESS Starseeker station, planning expeditions and upgrading tech before heading out to tackle planet-wide objectives and weird space hazards together. So with the heavy focus on co-op that means one thing – chaos.
