SDCC @ Home 2020 Recap


In case you didn’t know this past weekend would have been San Diego Comic Con 2019, that annual time every year for everything comic and massive Hall H announcements. While we weren’t expecting too much from SDCC this year there was still some things we wanted to know more about with the current events.

Lucky for us it will take more than a world wide lockdown to stop ComicCon with it going online for SDCC @ Home much like not-E3 and we have your recap right here. You should know that this isn’t a complete list with DC planning an online Fadom event later in August but still more than enough to be excited for.


  • Fittingly SDCC @ Home week started with a table read of Scott Pilgrim vs the World by the original cast via Zoom
  • The movie that seems to be cursed when it comes to theatrical release dates, The New Mutants is confirmed for release for Australia on August 27th
  • Christopher Nolan’s next sci-fi epic Tenet is also going ahead with a release for Australia and internationally on August 26th ahead of the US which is planned for later
  • The Back to the Future trilogy will be getting a UHD release
  • The Constantine 15th Anniversary panel revealed that there was plans for a sequel with John meeting Jesus which would have been a Hard R rated flick
  • Also in the world of Keanu there was a second Bill and Ted Face the Music trailer
  • Robert Kirkman during his panel said his series Oblivion Song is very active at Universal Studios
  • Todd McFarlane during his panel said he has been pretty busy during the pandemic hiring writers for a lot of properties including Spawn
  • The Recently announced Project Power Netflix film (with Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt) about police in a world where you can get superpowers from a drug gave a comic-con exclusive clip ahead of it’s release to streaming next month


  • The Walking Dead Season 10 Finale had a Comic Con trailer with 6 more episodes being added to TWD because Season 11 hasn’t started shooting
  • Fear the Walking Dead got a SDCC trailer too for next season
  • A new TWD spin off is The Walking Dead Beyond set 10 years after the outbreak and centres around growing up in the post Zombie world with a date for later this year and a trailer
  • Marvel 616 is a new Docu-series for Disney+ which will explore the 616 comic universe
  • The Boys Season 3 was confirmed at Amazon ahead of Season 2 release only 2 months away
  • Always a highlight for SDCC is a SDCC Archer trailer just to remind you Why You Should Be Watching Archer
  • The full voice cast for the animated Invincible series based on the Robert Kirkman comic book coming to Amazon was announced
  • Amazon also had the trailer for the new series Utopia out later this year about a group of comic fans who find a comic predicting the end of the world
  • And again at Amazon, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite as paranormal investigators for the Truth Seekers trailer
  • A new clip for the Phineas and Ferb Movie: Candace Against the Universe coming to Disney+ was released
  • We got a trailer for the Marvel TV Helstrom about the Son of Satan that will be on the US streaming service HULU
  • Netflix has confirmed Dragon Prince’s next season AND that they will be carrying the rest of the Saga all the way through to Season 7 (that’s 4 seasons!)
  • Star Trek had a lot of announcements with a full Star Trek panel, we already saw the trailer for Star Trek: Lower Decks. An animated series from one of the Rick and Morty/Solar Opposites show runners
  • Fox Television had a quiet few days only announcing Mad Men/Howard Stark in a AI/Cybercrime based series NeXt
  • His Dark Materials Season 2 got a trailer for the upcoming series
  • There was also another HBO backed trailer with the first look at Lovecraft Country and a proper trailer, you can probably guess what to expect from the ‘Lovecraft’ part


  • Rob Liefeld will be leading a new GI Joe Snake eyes series
  • SYFY channel is doing a Todd McFarlane documentary
  • Calvin and Hobbes creator Bill Watterson was inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame
  • Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw will have a new series at Image called Crossover (and not a DC/Marvel crossover as has been rumoured and wished on Twitter for the last few months during lockdown) in October
  • Wonder Woman is getting a new creative team on #759
  • DC announced the title of their 2020 major event – Endless Winter
  • Scott Snyder teased a new dark villain for the Dark Universe during the DC panel
  • Might Morphin Power Rangers is getting 2 upcoming ongoing series (titled Might Morphin and Power Rangers) from Boom Studios
  • Keanu Reeves will also be writing a new series called BRZRKR
  • Marvel will be doing a variant cover before the end of the year for COVID-19 called Heroes at Home showing Superheroes just doing their thing at home


  • Not a lot of big news in gaming with Not-E3 for Microsoft happening on Friday but the US based video game show G4TV dropped teasers of return in 2021


  • Marvel showed what exclusives might have been available on the floor online
  • For Funko fans they had the most non-Zoom call panel of the con going for more of a TV show production feel + Funko had some exclusive Pops planned for SDCC but fortunately you can pickup most of them through EB locally (we might need that Marty McFly)
  • Sideshow collectables setup early with their at home booth taking all the necessary precautions but ending up with probably one of the most in depth looks at what they had on show with new products, virtual walkthroughs and guided tours
  • Tie-ing in with last weeks Xbox event was a Master Chief collectable
  • Alien’s Nostromo crew got some new action figures
  • Todd McFarlane during his panel where he said that he has been busier than ever during the pandemic was also in relation to demand from online retailers so expect to see a slew of new toys

There you have it! All the biggest announcements to come out of this years SDCC @ Home. We are expecting more announcements for DC during their August event and Marvel when the theatre releases become clearer over the next few months.
