The impact of COVID-19 on the lives of everyone, everywhere, is still unfolding. The comic book industry has not withstood the drastic measures that all businesses have had to put in place to ensure the safety of their staff and customers.
Last week, Steve Geppi, the Chairman & CEO of Geppi Family Enterprises and founder of Diamond Distributors, made a statement addressing how the virus has and will continue to impact their business, along with the publishing houses they work with. It was announced that the comic releases scheduled for delivery from April 1st onwards will not be shipped to retailers and no dates were given for when distribution will recommence.
Geppi’s statement does make it clear that Diamond will be working with their partners to developed some strategies moving forward, yet comic retailers will undoubtedly be very concerned as to what the strategies will be. We can only wait and see what eventuates in the comic industry over the coming months. For now, the weekly Comic Pull List will be on hold, as we all focus on keeping ourselves safe. I will be working through my ‘yet-to-read’ pile!
If you are wanting to support your local comic store, now is the perfect time to pick up that order you never collected, or grab the last trade paperback volume in that series you never finished collecting. Many comic retailers are still trading online and via post, so call up your local store and ask them, or visit their website.
