OzComicCon is Dead, Long Live OzComicCon

Some big news in the Australian Con scene happened yesterday with OzComicCon showrunner ReedPop announcing they are handing over the property to the showrunners for the Stitches and Craft Expos (Expertise Events) across Australia.

From the official statement on the OzCC Facebook page:

Following six years of pop culture celebration and fun we have made the difficult decision to divest Oz Comic-Con to Expertise Events, one of Australia’s leading consumer event organisers. Expertise Events are well positioned to take over Oz Comic-Con and to share your pop culture passion with.

We would like to thank everyone who has attended and been part of this amazing journey. You gave us the opportunity to celebrate our pop culture obsessions with the best fans in the world – and for that we’ll be forever grateful.

The decision to sell our Oz Comic-Con events is not a reflection on the hard-work of the team, the support of our exhibitors or the passion of our fans – it is time to let another team take the reins. But know that we will miss you and we wish each and every one of you the very best for the future.

For those who didn’t know ReedPop Australia are not only responsible for OzComicCon in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney (after dropping Adelaide and Perth this year in lieu of a single night mature age party like event) but also PAXAus as well which is intended to continue with ReedPop.

What does this mean for OzComicCon and possibly Adelaide and Perth? We don’t know but we can tell you that OzComicCon attendees were recently sent surveys on who they would like to be attending in 2020 so it may seem OzCC is being handed over with some roadmap for next year at least.

For more on this, we are all just going to have to keep posted to the official sources.
