To celebrate the highly anticipated new Disney Plus series, The Mandalorian, we thought we would feature what is literally our very own Mandalorian enthusiast and Boba Fett cosplayer! Welcome to the team behind Boba Fett, Sam and Laura (Our very own CosFriday writer)!
What’s your name & how old are you? Hey! We are Sam and Laura, and we’re the duo behind Boba Fett. According to our parents, we’re too old to be playing dress-ups.
How long have you been cosplaying? Boba Fett was our first project and we made him back in 2015. We took a bit of a break around 2018 but we are very much back now!
What inspired you to start cosplaying? Sam made Boba Fett and it just spiralled from there! We love the reaction it gets, particularly when kids ask for a hug. That’s Sam’s favourite.
What was your First Cosplay? Boba Fett was our first project and we made him back in 2015. A friend invited us to Pax and wanted to cosplay – he ended up chickening out but Sam had already decided he wanted to be Boba Fett. Boba Fett took an entire year to build because there was a lot of trial and error! He is made mostly from PVC, metal (which Sam hand lathed), fabrics and fibreglass. We’re used to working with power tools, but this was certainly a bigger project than we had anticipated! We were so happy with the finished project.
What is your most recent cosplay? We are always upgrading and working on Boba Fett. We went to the Star Wars Costume Exhibition in Sydney earlier this year and got a chance to see the costume up close. We were impressed that our cosplay is incredibly close to the movie original, but there are a few dents we need to add here and there.
What cosplays are you currently working on? Our little team is very much divided up. The @MelbBobaFett side, which focuses on bigger builds is working on some crazy stuff at the moment. We’re working on a Mandalorian team, the Second Sister from Jedi Fallen Order (which Laura can’t wait to wear, she has an awesome lightsaber) and….a 9ft space marine. This 9ft space marine is by far our biggest project and we’re still finalising the plans. On the @Clarebear.cos side, we’re working on Elphelt (Guilty Gear XRD), Eraserhead and we have something funny planned for Melbourne MadFest!
Who are your favourite cosplayers in the community? There are too many to name. We actually watch a lot of Adam Savage tutorials, we hope to see him at a con one day.
Tell us an odd fact about yourself? We are always taking photos with people, that these are literally all the photos we have OF Boba Fett! Please tag us if you have more!
