There are always those cosplayers who go beyond (did you get the My Hero Academia reference there?) and manage to put together the larger than life characters you would otherwise never expect to see cosplayed. One of those cosplayers, is this week’s guest, Jole_Gsi.
What’s your name? I’m Joel.
How long have you been cosplaying? 6 years
What inspired you to start cosplaying? Believe it or not, when I was growing up I always thought cosplaying was for kids and there was no point to it. I was first inspired in 2012 when my brother mentioned a con called Supanova which involved anime, comics and dress up. What inspired me in 2014 was when I saw Melbourne Transformers cosplay (optimus prime). The way he and his crew brought a smile to peoples faces, and by seeing just how different it was is what pushed me to change my opinion on cosplaying and to try it myself.
What was your First Cosplay? My first “official” cosplay was Mordekaiser from League of Legends in 2015. I picked it because it was the only relatable character for me and because it was just unique. It’s a character you would never expect to see at a con.
What is your most recent cosplay? With the help of djseffects creating the mask, I was the USJ Nomu from My Hero Academia at Madman Anime Festival.
What cosplays are you currently working on? At this stage, I’m taking a break. Sadly, there won’t be any more new projects/cosplays for the time being.
Who are your favourite cosplayers in the community? There are quite a handful of cosplayers I respect out there so choosing a favourite is tricky. I would have to say Melbourne transformers/xlentevents team (amazing cosplays and great with the crowd), osris.vii (her makeup/cosplay work is incredible) and ashmicos (and whichever photographer is taking the photos because all of them are amazing!).
Who else do you want to cosplay? I do have some future plans (maybe late 2021) for threes new cosplays but for now thats all a secret.
Tell us an odd fact about yourself! In the 6 years I’ve been cosplaying, no one really knows what I look like outside of my cosplays because I’m always covered.
