What’s On: Sep 18 – 24

Arr! It be talk like a Pirate Day this week and.. we honestly don’t have that many pirate based events to tell you, about but you can always keelhaul someone while watching new Disenchantment on Netflix or heading to OzComicCon Brisbane this week. Here is your guide to everything happening this week in Geek across Australia.

1On Streaming/TV

If you have Netflix (or at least share a Netflix account) then on Friday in streaming is part two of the Matt Groening fantasy series – Disenchantment. We actually quite liked the opening to this new Netflix exclusive from the same team as behind the Simpsons, and while we might have wished for more Futurama we are definitely up for more of the demonic imp – Luci. It returns this Friday.

2In Cinemas

After a long dry spell of new movies this week there is a big drop of new films. If you aren’t interested in the School Holiday films of Abominable from Dreamworks or the live-action Dora the Explorer movie (we aren’t making that up) then you can indulge yourself this week with some more M rated films. See the latest 80s franchise return with Rambo V or the Brad Pitt in space of Ad Astra.

3Stuff To Go Do

What’s happening this weekend? If you are in Brisbane you already know the answer to that – OzComicCon! One of the biggest cons in the annual calendar this event in Brisbane has some pretty impressive guests including Agent Peggy Carter/Hayley Atwell! Of course, there are a ton of comic and creative guests and all the awesome cosplay you have come to expect when it hits town this Saturday and Sunday.

Heading further south is Bendi-Con! The new name for the Bendigo Record Comic and Toy Fair and on this Sunday in Bendigo. The Record Comic and Toy Fair was a great place to find that hidden book missing from your collection and you can only check it out for yourself this weekend.

And finally while not really in our wheelhouse we would be remiss not to mention that VidCon is on this Thursday through to Sunday in Melbourne. The full guest list is up on the VidCon website but if you have a favourite local YouTube creator check out the guide to see when you can meet them IRL.
