What’s On: Sep 11 – 17

The Melbourne Madman Anime Festival returns, Steampunk in Adelaide with the Australian Tetris Championships in Sydney, Tabletop at Go Play in Brisbane and a helping of Friday the 13th movies are all ahead of you for this week. Here is your guide to everything happening this week in Geek across Australia.

1In Cinemas

While there are no new films out this week it is Friday the 13th and if you are in Perth you might want to check out the Friday the 13th Double Feature by the Girls School Cinema. Girls School Cinema is the same group that brought you the Perth Fringe World and Rooftop Cinema. They have plenty of events too with Saturday bringing a Spielburg double feature of Jurassic Park and E.T.

2Stuff To Go Do

Love all things Anime, Manga and JPRG? Are you a frequent shopper at Madman.com.au? Are you in Melbourne? If you said yes to all of these questions you are probably already heading to Madfest Melbourne from Saturday but for everyone else the Anime Festival is on this weekend. Happening on both Saturday and Sunday at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre you can expect gaming, merch, special guests and more than a few super early sneak previews of upcoming Anime that Madfest is known for.

In tabletop events, this week in Brisbane is Go Play 2019. This 2 Day gaming event happening right in the middle of Brisbane at the Edge precinct of the State Library has grown every year with this year adding LARP to it’s line up of tabletop and other gaming. Check out their site for the full (and extensive) schedule of gaming happening this Saturday and Sunday.

It’s that time of year again in Adelaide for the Steampunk Festival at the National Railway Museum. This annual event celebrating everything brass and clockwork in Port Adelaide is a staple of the annual Pop Culture events calendar. If you are into Steampunk or even just a little curious this is the perfect event for you.

And finally this Sunday the 1989 Arcade and Bar is the venue for the Australian Classic Tetris Championship. Happening in Sydney 32 players will go head to head on the classic Tetris on the original NES platform, players will still have a chance to qualify on the Saturday before the finals on Sunday. For more details jump over to the 1989 Event page!
