The 50th Anniversary of the Apollo Space Mission! SDCC streaming online! The Lion King in Cinemas! Wintercon! FraserPop! Conquest 37! Woo, sorry we got over-excited with so much on this week that we need to sit down for a minute… Here is your guide to Everything happening this week in Geek across Australia.

1On Streaming/TV

While it’s not really local we have to mention that this weekend is San Diego Comic-Con. And while we will be bringing you our usual round-ups of every day across the con so you are in the know you can tune in live on YouTube to some of the big names like Marvel who will be streaming across the entire con.

2In Cinemas

This week everything the light touches is your kingdom with the Lion King live-action hitting cinemas this week. This is next animated to live-action jump under the stewardship of Iron Man and live-action Jungle Book director Jon Favreau, will be a fan favourite or aiming to appeal to a new generation like Aladdin? Find out on Thursday.

3Stuff To Go Do

This weekend there are some huge events on but the biggest is the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Space Mission. If you want to get into something Space related, don’t forget about the NASA Exhibition in Brisbane and the Apollo Exhibition in Sydney but you should also check out your local observatory for any special events this weekend.

If you are in the Maryborough region you should check out FraserPop III happening this weekend! You already know we love cons happening outside the capital cities and this one is even more special with the event being part of the Maryborough High School student curriculum. Now on its 3rd year, your support just makes this bigger every passing year.

Closer to Brisbane there are some great events this weekend with the Store of Requirement hosting a Wizard’s Tournament this Wednesday. A sort of a cross between an escape room and Harry Potter trivia contest you might be too late to register your team but you should still check it out and keep it on your radar for the next round. Also in Brisbane, this weekend is one of Australia’s longest-running event – Conquest 37, the 37th year of this Sci-Fi convention in Brisbane. With a long schedule across 2 days, if you are love talking things pop culture you should check this out.

If you are closer to Canberra embrace the cold for WinterCon 2019, while a smaller event it has most of the same trimmings as Cancon with Tournaments, Trade Stands, Participation Games, a Games Library and most importantly heaters for this 2 day weekend event this weekend.
