Happy CosFriday Everybody! If you are new here, Hi! How are you? We are so glad you are here because how else could we introduce you to our talented and very academically distinguished featured Cosplayer this week. Meet Kibbleking!

What’s your name & how old are you? My name is Emma, but I go by Kibbleking online (although Kibbleking Cosplay and subsidiaries also includes my husband, Morgan). I’m 30 years old.

How long have you been cosplaying? A looooong time! My very first self-made costume was Galadriel for a friend’s Lord of the Rings birthday party that I took way too seriously. I think I made my very first cosplay for a convention in my Year 9 or 10 textiles class.

What inspired you to start cosplaying? As soon as I saw other people cosplaying at my very first Manifest I knew it was something I wanted to try. I grew up in the US and always loved Halloween, but it wasn’t really popular in Australia at that time, so I needed a new outlet for playing dress-ups.

As I continued to cosplay I was more inspired by the creative challenge of translating something from a video game or anime into the real world. Cosplay draws on a very different set of skills to those I use in my day job, so it’s a really great way to continue to exercise the creative parts of my brain and switch modes after a hectic day at work.

What was your First Cosplay? I think it was Kikyo from Inuyasha. This was back in a dark time when we had no foam or worbla, no wigs, and your fabric choices at Spotlight were poplin or party satin so please don’t judge me if those pictures ever see the light of day again.

What is your most recent cosplay? I made a few that I’m really proud of this year, but haven’t had the chance to wear them all to cons yet. I just recently debuted Baby 5 (One Piece) at Melb OzComicon. My friend @Luka.Dee made my enormous gatling gun – it was super fun to pose with (although obviously not possible to actually enter the convention holding it!)

What cosplays are you currently working on? Right now we are working on two characters from Bravely Default which will hopefully be ready by PAX this year. We’ve also gotten really addicted to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures so have quickly whipped up some cosplays from that series. I’m not sure what I will manage to get done by the end of the year (the downside of juggling cosplay with a full-time job) but I’ll do my best.

Who are your favourite cosplayers in the community? I’m very lucky to be able to call a bunch of very funny, kind and talented cosplayers friends, including Blackcrane Cosplay, Lunarvexcosplay, Clamwings, K Cosplay, theWitchcosplay, alycesca, Kiriecosplay, EmeraldKing, Kaori Cosplayer, gaming_goddess, TJ Cosplay, Risika Cosplay, Redscarf, and more. In terms of Australian cosplayers I don’t know as well but really admire, I really like Osris.vii for transformative character makeup, Cinohrui for amazing detailed builds, and cosplay_of_the_aesir for really clean and accurate wig styling.

Who else do you want to cosplay? A lot of my dream cosplays involve groups, but these get harder to organise as you get older since everyone is super busy. I’d like to do more Sailor Moon villains, Pokemon, and CLAMP cosplays. I’m always up for more Fire Emblem and Phoenix Wright cosplays – they have such distinctive characters.

One year I want to cosplay a Persona summon, but I’m always getting distracted by new series and ideas so it’s hard to predict what I’ll end up making!

Tell us an odd fact about yourself! I have a PhD, so it’s Dr Kibbleking if you’re nasty
