Finally the wait is over. The official start to the E3 press conferences is here (not counting that EA snoozefest), beginning with what most assume will be the strongest offering at the show thanks to the folks at Xbox.

The first thing we see is a new trailer for Outer Worlds, made by one of last year’s studio acquisitions Obsidian. Comes out October 25 on Game Pass.

Ninja Theory’s new game Bleeding Edge was next. It looks to be an interesting 4 vs 4 3D combat game with an injection of attitude. There will be a technical alpha starting June 27.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps looks as visually stunning and emotional as the first game. Releases February 11, 2020.

Mojang’s new Diablo-esque title Minecraft Dungeons is set to come out next year.

Phil Spencer came out to address the Microsoft theatre crowd. He announced that 60 games would be on display during their show, with 34 launching on Game Pass. It’s a far cry from the TV TV TV days from a few years back.

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order had a new trailer. Set for a November 11 release, we saw a greater mix of gameplay than the EA show.

Spooky thriller akin to Outcast called Blair Witch. We’ll see how it holds up on August 30.

Cyberpunk WITH KEANU REEVES! The game was given a release date of April 16, 2020 and I can’t wait. This by far received the biggest cheer from the LA crowd during the event.

It’s hard to follow that up, so in a change of pace we were given an announcement trailer for the really charming 2D boat building title Spiritfarer.

Also Battletoads is back. Yay?

In a lesson of more is less, The Legend of Wright trailer showed a lot. Like, too much, and just came off as overwhelming.

Time for a classic [email protected] sizzle reel! With Afterparty, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, and Supermarket Shriek all being a part of the roster, it’s great to have Xbox Game Pass.

New games on Games Pass today include: Arkham Knight, Metro Exodus, Handsome Collection and Hollow Knight. Xbox Game Pass also launches on PC today. If you already pay for Game Pass Ultimate ($15.95 per month) then you’ll be happy to know there is no extra charge.

Speaking of PC, there’s a new Flight Simulator game which is based on real satellite data.

And you can’t have PC gaming without Age of Empires 2.

Next we had a Quirky game trailer for Wasteland 3, thanks to the team at inXile Entertainment.

Double Fine productions was then announced as the newest studio to be acquired by Microsoft, and to celebrate they gave us a new trailer for Psychonauts 2.

There’s a new Lego Star Wars based on the Skywalker Saga game coming out in 2020.

The Project Z action RPG was renamed to Dragonball Z: Kakarot with a 2020 release date.

An interactive thriller called 12 Minutes showed off some fascinating timeloop-based gameplay.

With a Breath of the Wild style of graphics, Way to the Woods looks like a story driven exploration tite.

Gears 5 is set to release on September 10. There’s also a new 3 player co-op game mode called Escape which was shown off, but the entire thing came off as very underwhelming. This was one of the weaker parts of the show up to this point. They’re still doing the old ‘play 4 days early with the special edition’ thing and detailing a pre-order bonus of a Terminator skin. So weird.

We’re getting a new elite controller with bluetooth and even more tweaking ability.

Dying Light 2 in coming out next year, but I personally think last year’s trailer showed the game off better.

LEGO Speed Champions is the upcoming expansion for Forza Horizon 4 this week. I guess that means we’re not getting an annual installment in the Forza series for the first time in a looong time.

Remember Gears Pop? Don’t worry because it’s just Clash Royale.

State of Decay 2 has a new expansion called Heartland which is out now.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is coming to Xbox?! Sure, why not? Autumn 2020.

Crossfire X is also coming over from Korea in 2020.

The next title in the Tales franchise, Tales of Arise, is set to come out in 2020.

Borderlands 3 continues to look awesome and September can’t come soon enough.

Elden Ring by FromSoftware is the long rumoured game in collaboration with George RR Martin. I wonder what the reception will be like after the wrap of Game of Thrones.

Phil Spencer came back on stage to take us home. A preview of X Cloud is coming in October without much more detail besides that. I think most people were expecting a lot more on the streaming service. The next Xbox, still codenamed Project Scarlett, was confirmed for holiday 2020.

Halo Infinite will be launching alongside the next Xbox in holiday 2020.

It’s frustrating that two of the more disappointing games were the flagships of Xbox, Gears 5 and Halo Infinite. I’m sure the games will be great, but they weren’t done justice.

Overall the Microsoft press conference was strong but had some pacing issues and trailed off by the end. Cyberpunk was the hero of the show and promises to be huge when it comes out early next year.
