What inspired you to start cosplaying? I attended my first convention (Supanova) in 2009 for the whole weekend. I was amazing at how many different people (more so age wise – young, older people – all ages really) were in cosplay/costume. After attending the entire weekend, I chose to go for it, and lean towards a cosplay that I wanted to do to represent my favourite fandom, and also represent a popular fandom.

What was your First Cosplay? I had two that I had ready for the following year (2010). The first one I wore was my version of Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. I purchased the cloak from eBay, along with the tie, badges, a wand, and a bag. I then just went to Target and other clothing shops to purchase clothes to work for the school look.

My other cosplay for the same convention was my version of Vala Mal Doran from Stargate SG-1. I went to Lowe’s and obtained a men’s blue work shirt and work pants. I had my mum hand sew on the patches to the shirt. I had a makeshift thigh holster made from a kids cowboy waist holster, using the small toy gun (before I was able to obtain a correct size gun). I also bought a cheap combat vest and a black wig from eBay.

What is your most recent cosplay? My most recent cosplay would have to be my Gretchen Weiners cosplay that I had ready for Brisbane Supanova 2018. I recreated the Burn Book by myself, creating the pages to represent the different pop culture characters, and made it more family friendly if you read it. I would love to recreate more cosplays from this movie, including the Christmas Pageant scene.

What cosplays are you currently working on? I am currently working on my Patrick Bateman cosplay for Gold Coast Supanova. I currently have the shirt, tie, raincoat, and an axe which is going to be fixed up by a cosplay friend. I have also collected some prop pieces to go with the cosplay – a copy of the Huey Lewis & The News’ album Fore!, an old school Walkman and headphones. I am still after a suit and a pair of shiny shoes.

I love finding the details that I need to ensure are correct for the character that I am cosplaying as, adding as many nice accessories or props to show the characteristics of the character.

Who are your favourite cosplayers in the community? I follow Infamous By Laura. She has displayed so many well detailed Harley Quinn cosplays and has given me inspiration with my own versions of Harley from Suicide Squad. I also follow other cosplayers who I have become friends with – Mel/alicetwillighter cosplay, L.A Cosplay, and Wattever cosplay and props.

They are all great in their own way, and we have collaborated at least once on a project, or more than that. I look forward to working with them on different levels this coming year.

Who else do you want to cosplay? One of my cosplays that I have finally chosen to wear and one that I have always wanted to cosplay in one of Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman and will be hopefully cosplaying her on the Friday of Gold Coast Supanova. One cosplay that I am wanting to cosplay, and have tried in the past and failed (due to the cosplay not fitting) is the Goa’uld dress cosplay for Vala Mal Doran from Stargate SG-1 season 9. I grew to love the character of Vala, and want to expand my cosplays for this character.

Tell us an odd fact about yourself! I love horror movies (the gorier the better), but I will not step foot into a haunted house.
