The World Science Festival kicks off in Brisbane with NASA and Spike Spiegel while Sydney gets its own LEGO Store, GAMMACon goes to Wagga Wagga and Foxtel starts the final season of GoT hype. All this and a lot more are happening across Australia for you in this week in Geek.

1On Streaming/TV

And in Streaming this week we have The OA Season 2 on Netflix this Friday. What is the OA? It’s hard to explain. It’s A little X-Files and a little Twin Peaks – if you are a fan of either of those you might want to binge season one before this weekend. But we are still holding out hope for a Gotham like procedural cop drama set on the homeworld of the Green Lantern Corps.

Also on Streaming (but Foxtel) with the final season of Game of Thrones next month, Foxtel has launched their pre-Thrones show Thones360. Hosted by James Mathison & Hex from Good Game this is the best way to talk all about the latest episode without spoiling it and creating a lifelong nemesis by spoiling it for your coworkers and friends. It’s on every Monday night on Foxtel Showcase.

2In Cinemas

In Cinemas this week is the LEGO Movie 2, look we know we said it came out last week. And it did, sorta with a lot of special screenings but it’s out this week properly we promise you. This isn’t a Charlie Brown/Lucy/Football type of thing.

ALSO in Cinemas this week to tie into the World Science Festival in Brisbane is a slew of films at Brisbane’s GOMA cinema. But if we had to pick just one film this week it has to be – Cowboy Bebop The Movie this Friday.

3Stuff To Go Do

The World Science Festival kicks off this week in Brisbane (and some touring events around Queensland) which we are always a big fan of with a ton of events from Stargazing to Science Street to Nights in the Museum. We have a few of our favourite events listed below but you can check out the full program on the official site.

Also in the World Science Festival area in Brisbane is the kick off of the new NASA exhibit at the Museum. It shows off a ton of space-based equipment with over 250 artifacts from the United States and Soviet Union Space Programs. Including replicas, models and equipment used and returned from missions.

Sydney-ites aren’t missing out this Thursday with Australia’s second official LEGO store opening at Westfield Bondi Junction. It’s going to be open all year long so there is no need to rush but we can say if it’s anything like the Queensland store opening there might be an exclusive for an opening day.

And lastly it’s time for GAMMACON! In Wagga Wagga! Yes, we realise GAMMACON is usually in Canberra but this year you get double the GAMMA with the Wagga Wagga GAMMACON happening this Saturday. Merch, Cosplay, Comics and more… it’s everything you love about GAMMACON just in a different time and space. We suspect the work of Timelords.
