What are you playing/reading/watching right now? At the moment I’m playing Spider-Man for the PS4…it’s very late I know. It’s really an amazing game, you feel like you’re Spider-Man flying across the city, the story is pretty interesting, and the gameplay is just done really well. With this and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-versewhich is probably the best film of 2018, it’s really gotten me interested in the character and reading more about him.

What is From Norway To Northcote? Why is it important? From Norway To Northcote is a book I recently released through the FrankenLaunch ’18 on December 16. It’s a short little comic about a Viking woman from 1500s Norway getting sent to the northern suburbs of Melbourne in the present day. It was inspired by my walks around Fitzroy, Brunswick, and Northcote at around midnight, listening to black metal and thinking that the rough, abandoned streets of these suburbs would make a great backdrop for a dark, moody story. A lot of the comics I’ve done in the past have been those that portray social outcasts and misfits in modern-day society, using horror and sci-fi as a metaphor to explore that, so this book fits in quite well with that. It was the final book I did for 2018 and it’s been a year where I’ve returned to comics after a 2-year hiatus, so I think it was a great way to cap off 2018.

Apart from your comic what should everyone be looking out for in local Australian Pop Culture? I really like Ben Mitchell’s Storm Cloud comics and everything that’s related to that piece of work, it’s a murder mystery noir type of story set in the Australian town of Bontown, with the local police force investigating a masked gang of cop killers. It has two sequels – Ghost Beach and Don’t Panic and it’s really great, I love the art, it depicts Newcastle in a really cool way and Ben knows how to tell an interesting mystery story. You can find it on Facebook!

Major prediction for Pop Culture 12 months from now? I think with the Marvel Cinematic Universe ending with Avengers Endgame and beginning new, it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out and what that will entail for other comic book movies going forward. With Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse recently out and how that portrays the comic book medium, I really hope it gets more people into reading comics since the general public will be more aware of how the medium works and the various creative opportunities it can provide. I just hope comics will continue to play an integral part in pop culture.

Best last thing you ate? The best last thing I ate was a HSP (Halal Snack Pack) – the best mix of meat, chips, cheese, and every sauce known to humankind.
