This week #SaveFerris before checking out original props from Star Wars and then binge’ing some Netflix For the Honour of Greyskull. It’s all happening across Australia for this Week in Geek.

1. Queensland

Wednesday

In The House hits its penultimate film on Wednesday in Event Cinemas with the John Hughes classic – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. It’s playing across Queensland in Event Cinemas on the Gold Coast at Pacific Fair & Southport, Cairns, Ipswich, Townsville, Sunshine Coast Maroochydore cinemas, Toowoomba, Mackay and Brisbane‘s Loganholme, Myer Centre, Chermside and Garden City Event Cinemas. And just a reminder every In The House this season is playing on Wednesday and Monday nights in case you want to start your weekend even earlier… Chick Chick Ah.

If you can’t wait for Elon to get to Mars season two of the Ron Howard series, Mars, begins on the Discovery Channel this Wednesday. Available for Foxtel subscribers this 6 part scripted series goes documentary style to give you a glimpse behind the scenes as to what would be involved in interplanetary colonisation.

Thursday

Return to the Wizarding world of JK Rowling with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in cinemas across Australia this Thursday. You can check out our full review of the continuing Adventures of Newt Scalamander later this week.

Fans of The Vampire Diaries will have a new series to obsess over this Thursday with Legacies. The second spin-off series after The Originals, Legacies follows a more teenage cast centred on Hope Mikaelson, the daughter of a werewolf, vampire and granddaughter of a witch at the Salvatore School in Mystic Falls. If you have Foxtel you can watch it first on FOX8.

Friday

For the Honor of Greyskull! This Friday on Netflix She-Ra and the Princesses of Power drops for your binging pleasure. While we normally are not fans of unnecessary reboots, after the awesome new Voltron series from the same studio we think this one might be totally necessary.

Also on Netflix this Friday if you are already on your second RDR2 playthrough then take a break with some cowboy action from the Coen Bros in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. The next in the full feature films to debut on Netflix instead of cinemas will no doubt be a must-see for anyone who is a fan of the creators behind Fargo, Brother Where Art Thou and a lot more.

And just one more for Netflix on Friday, we want to give a small mention to the new Hank Pym, we mean Michael Douglas series – The Kominsky Method. Created by the Big Bang Theories Chuck Lorrie and also starring Alan Arkin, so far we have been hearing good things.

Want to get out of the house this Friday? With the weather getting warmer the Big Screen on the Green returns to the Eagle Farm racecourse in Brisbane. Watch big screen movies right on the racecourse lawns while you sip champagne and this Friday it starts with Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Pick your package and get your tickets over at the official site.

Saturday

A time honoured tradition in the outer rim, this Saturday is Wookie Life Day. Find yourself a copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special, gather around the Tree of Life and remember to let Wookie win this Saturday.

This Saturday Netherworld’s Ultimate Denzien will face off with his Melbourne nemesis to reclaim his Point Blank arcade championship. Not to pass up the opportunity for anyone in Brisbane Netherworld is throwing open the doors for anyone to watch or maybe set a record of their own with World Record attempts being streamed live from 10 AM.

If you enjoyed the Doctor Who Murder Mystery at the Fox and Hounds then know winter is coming early with Game of Thrones Murder Mystery this Saturday. Happening at the Fox and Hounds south of Brisbane tickets for these events are limited but well worth it for the 3-course meal to go with the event.

Before Mary Poppins returns in January see the original on the big screen as part of Palace Cinemas Flashback Family Films. Playing at the Barracks Palace cinema in Brisbane both Saturday and Sunday this week see the original Mary Poppins before the final in the trilogy (yes we are totally counting Yondu).

It’s time to Jam at the 1989 Arcade in Sydney for the 2v2 NBA Jam Arcade Tournament. Limited to 32 players this knock out tournament starts at 7:30 PM sharp with the winning team taking home the coveted 1989 Arcade trophy along with a hefty bar tab.

Friday

This Friday in Sydney will be a day long remembered as the Star Wars Identities Exhibition opens at the Powerhouse Museum. Open until June, the interactive exhibition includes 200 original Star Wars objects allowing you to get up close to original costumes, props, droids and more from the films. Check back next week when we sit down with the exhibit curator for more.

Need to get out of the house this Friday? Head to the Ritz Cinema on Friday for the awesome 1999 film, Run Lola Run on the original 35mm. This German-made sci-fi/thriller gives Lola 20 minutes to save her two-bit criminal boyfriend from a local crime lord in this film which is Groundhog Day meets Crank.

There have been multiple screenings of the Kubrick 2001: A Space Odyssey for the 50th anniversary this year but this Friday is your only chance to see 2001 with a Q&A with actors from the film. It’s limited to one session only with the Q&A at the Orpheum Theatre in Sydney so pick up your tickets online now.

If you notice an uptick of fur covered cosplayers this weekend in Australia’s capital city don’t panic as it is only CBRFur, Canberra‘s own Furry con. Setting itself apart from other cons with a central location but exploring the city as a group expect to see wandering packs roaming the city this weekend.

Studying hard for your OWLs? Put all that Pottermore knowledge to good use with Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Quizzardry comes to Sydney this Friday. This travelling quiz night has sold out in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra so gather your housemates and book your tickets soon.

And lastly, for Friday in Sydney, we want to give a shout out to the Ball Pit Party. Happening on a yacht on Darling Harbour tickets are sold for a 1.5-hour amount of playtime as the middle deck of the boat is filled with ball pit balls (including one that is holding $1000 cash). Saturday

This Saturday the annual Betwixt & Between feast is happening at Wadeville (20 minutes from Nimbin). This Faery and Goblin themed event includes merchants and stalls along with a 7-course feast happening across Saturday and Sunday. For more about this event check out the official site.

New South Wales’ largest Toy and Hobby Collectable Market, Collectormania is on again. The largest collectors toy fair in NSW with everything from MOTU to original card Star Wars and everything in between, if you can’t find what you are looking anywhere you will probably find it here this Sunday in Sydney.

If you have binged watched Black Books more than once (it’s currently on Netflix too FYI) then you probably already know Bill Bailey is on his Australia Tour and in Newcastle this Saturday at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre. These have been selling out so make sure you don’t delay.

3. Victoria & Tasmania
