In Cinemas from Thursday, the latest in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series hits theatres across Australia with The Girl in the Spiders Web. We will be honest we don’t know too much about this series but the trailer for the latest one makes this look pretty interesting.

Also in limited cinemas from Thursday is the Anime, Penguin Highway. Distributed through Madman this one is only in cinemas for a short time on a limited number of screens, this one has already won a Best Animated Feature at the Montreal Fantasia International Film Festival recently. The American Express Open Air Cinema is nearly finished for its tour in Brisbane this week but there are still some great movies playing this week. This Thursday get outdoors and see the latest Mission Impossible instalment Mission Impossible Fallout on the shores of the Brisbane River.

It’s Indie Dev Night again at Brisbane‘s Netherworld and it’s your best chance to check out some of the best and newest locally developed games. This Thursday check out Wildcat Gun Machine, Here, There Be Monsters and more at this completely free event to get one on one with the developers behind the games.

Friday

Friday is the first day of Supanova in Brisbane! Returning for 2018 this is one of the largest travelling Cons in Australia and always boasts a huge number of guests from TV, Movies and even Comics. With tons of merch, attractions and cosplay this is your entire weekend planned as this runs through to Sunday.

On Netflix this Friday the Outlaw King is a premiere movie which answers the question of what would happen if Captain Kirk was a medieval king. Chris Pine stars in this Netflix big budget film about Robert the Bruce during the occupation of medieval Scotland by Edward the First of England.

There have been multiple screenings of the Kubrick 2001: A Space Odyssey for the 50th anniversary this year but this Friday is your only chance to see 2001 with a Q&A with actors from the film. It’s limited to one session only with the Q&A at the Palace Cinema in Brisbane so pick up your tickets online now.

The American Express Open Air Cinema continues on Friday for its final week in Brisbane with the newest addition to the cinematic Spiderverse – Venom. The Open Air Cinema finishes on Sunday and if you can’t make it on Friday then you can also see it on the final night.

Saturday

If you have Foxtel start your Saturday with some new Marvel cartoons. This Saturday is the premiere date for the newest Black Panther season of Avengers: Panthers Quest and the brand new series Marvel Rising. We are really looking forward to Marvel Rising for a lot of reasons including both Squirrel Girl and Quake are being voiced by their live action counterparts.

Supanova Brisbane continues this Saturday but we want to give a special shout out to this week’s Creator Spotlight Creator’s new Cosplay Documentary, Hot Glue will be playing at Supanova this Saturday. The Best Donkey Kong players across Australia and New Zealand are coming to Brisbane and descending on Netherworld this Saturday for Kong Off II. This completely free event is open for anyone to challenge the best but if you don’t want to watch in person you will also be able to check out the Twitch stream all day this Saturday.

Do you need over half a tonne of LEGO? Stupid question of course you do but if you want to know where you can get it then Brisbane Brickresales will be having another of their LEGO events this Saturday. Need another reason outside of your crippling LEGO addiction? Your Gold Coin donation for entry will go towards RizeUp, a community-driven organisation of passionate men and women, dedicated to supporting the many families affected by domestic and family violence.

Saturday is your second last chance to get to the American Express Open Air Cinema and this Saturday there is a double feature playing on the bank of the Brisbane River at the outdoor cinema. Also in Event Cinemas the MCU countdown of every MCU film reaches the end this Saturday with Infinity War. Playing at Event Cinemas Chermside, Indooroopilly and Loganholme in Brisbane. This should give you a nice 2-week break before you need to start watching them all again, one a week to count down to Infinity War Part 2.

And wrapping up your Saturday in Brisbane we have to give another shoutout to the Bowie Down Brunswick street fundraiser on Saturday Night. This fundraiser is to aid the Cancer Council Queensland as you dress in your best David Bowie starting at Netherworld at 6 PM. Whether you are Starman, Goblin King or even the Sovereign this is for a good cause.
