What’s your name & how old are you? Jimmy Lee, I’m 27

How long have you been cosplaying? I’ve been cosplaying since AVCon 2011 and since then I’ve been able to fulfil so many of my cosplay dreams. Working for Logitech, Riot and ESL are some of the things I’m most proud of, as well as getting my big ol’ face on the OCE League client last year! More than anything though, I appreciate the friendships I’ve made in the last 7 years, without all the incredible humans I’ve met through cosplay I absolutely wouldn’t be the person I am now.

What inspired you to start cosplaying? Technically when I started cosplaying I didn’t even know that ‘cosplay’ was a thing. I knew that people dressed up as anime characters for AVCon every year and so that’s what I did, without knowing there was any wider community to it, and now here we are!

What was your First Cosplay? My first cosplay, the one I wore to my first AVCon, was Sailor Mercury, from Sailor Moon. I was baited into the ebay trap and what I bought was not what I received, so I ended up pulling the costume apart, dying and remaking some parts and putting it all back together. I’m so glad I did though because I think that’s what first sparked the addiction for creating costumes. So thanks, dodgy ebay store…

What is your most recent cosplay? I’ve just finished Dragon Trainer Tristana (and Riggle) from League of Legends. This costume was a lot of fun, and I got to make a dragon, so that’s cool!

What cosplays are you currently working on? Right now I’m working on Star Guardian Ahri from League of legends, for PAX AUS and Championship Ashe also from League of Legends, but that one I’ll be taking with Korea with me for the LoL World Finals! I told myself this year I wouldn’t make only League costumes (again) and yet here we are… haha!

Who are your favourite cosplayers in the community? OK this is going to be hard because I love SO many people in this community, but I’m going to have to name my friends for being some of the most wonderful, hardworking, talented and supportive people in my life!!

Alishiera, Zumbo Blackheart, Floksy Locksy, Clutterfiend, JusZ, Mel-eficent, Burrows Red, Piltover City Customs & Zalaria.

And I’d just like to give a quick shoutout to some of the photographers who I’m lucky enough to have worked with and call my friends, because they’ve had just as much an impact on my time in the community!

Charlotte Nicholson, SFX Photography, Steamkittens, Nathan Tan, Creed Photography… I’m sure there are so many more but I’m struggling to get my brain in gear, haha!

Who else do you want to cosplay? My absolute dream cosplay would be Tira from Soul Calibur V, it might not seem super flashy but I’ve always loved her character and all the small details, more than that it ties in a lot with my body confidence. I’ve been saying for years that the second I’m happy with my body I’ll finally cosplay her, and I think I’m almost there – so hopefully you’ll be seeing her soon. I’d also love to finish Soul Calibur V Yoshimitsu, which I’ve had in the works for about 2 years but never found the motivation to complete, and now SCVI is being released and I wan’t to make the new one too! Tell us an odd fact about yourself! I’m generally not a very emotional person but I lose my shit over animals. When I killed the Kulu Ya Ku in Monster Hunter World I legitimately shed a tear and had to take a break for the rest of the day, so apparently that extends to video game animals too.
