This Saturday is the second ever TooCon, Toowoomba’s own Pop Culture Con happening at the Toowoomba Library. With Comic Guests, Local Creators, Meri Amber, the 501st Legion, Hire a Tardis, Batmobile and a lot more it’s set for a huge day so make sure you support this rural con.

Also west of Brisbane in Ipswich this weekend for lovers of things miniature the Queensland Model Hobbies Expo is on this Saturday and Sunday. Figures, boats, planes and tanks are not the limit with it also being the venue for the 23rd Annual Scale Model Championship.

Starting Saturday and running through to Sunday is the annual Redcliffe Kitefest in Brisbane’s north. The Kitefest features the most impressive domestic and internationally made kites with world class Kite flyers putting on demonstrations.

Hunting for that missing back issue in your comic collection? Try Comic Market Day at Ace Comics in Brisbane. On top of the swap meet there will also be local Comic Creators showcasing their independently published work. It’s on this Saturday.

Saturday as part of the Horizon Festival is the Sunshine Coast‘s own Pop Culture Con, Manafest. Manafest covers everything from LARP to Comics to Video Games with just a dash of Cosplay and K-Pop, and it’s on this Saturday only.

Sticking on the Sunshine Coast you can stock up your LEGO reserves with BrickResales putting on a LEGO Market Day this Saturday. With plenty of sets, make your own minifig plus bulk buying of bricks this is a great event with donations for entry going to the domestic and family violence charity, RizeUp Australia.

Miss out on Harry Potter Trivia at the Brightside on Friday? Your second chance is this Saturday in Brisbane with Harry Potter Trivia at the Petrie Hotel and it’s all to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation. It’s only a gold coin at the door for entry so get your entire team and do your best to raise for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Sunday

Closing out your weekend in Brisbane at Netherworld is another Sunday session from Two Bit Cinema Club. This week is a special screening of the Australian made low budget 80’s action cop comedy, Lieutenant Jangles. Tickets are available now for this screening joined by the movie creators Nicolas Champeaux & Daniel Cordery and star Matt Dickie.

It’s the final week Artworld Videogames exhibition at the Bar SK in Melbourne. This exhibition celebrates media and experimental games and is co-sponsored by ACMI + RMI University. This Thursday is the opening night for this week’s featured artist Zach Gage who’s work will be on display until next Tuesday.

The MWF brings together a collection of local writers across multiple events and panels for the next week, from defending the Basilisk to conversations on Sci-Fi you can check the full programme for something to your tastes.

At the Melbourne IMAX you can also see a special screening of the digitally remastered 2001: A Space Odyssy. The Kubrick classic, a big screen adaption of The Sentinel by Arthur C. Clarke, is playing for one session only this Friday.

The Balingup Medieval Carnivale is the oldest Medieval Festival in Western Australia held in the tiny town of Balingup. With over 100 stalls, knights and blacksmiths gates open Saturday 10 AM and the carnival runs through to Sunday.
