Finishing on Wednesday is your last chance to see the stage production of H.G. Wells Around the World in 80 Days at Brisbane‘s QUT Garden Theatre. Part Victorian Adventure with a little Monty Python mixed in follow Phileas Fogg and Passepartout before this ends mid-week.

Thursday

If you want to get out of the house then The Elizabeth Picture Theatre in Brisbane continues it’s Thursday night Studio Ghibli festival this week with Laputa: Castle in the Sky. Solve mysteries like the Scooby Gang at the Museum of Brisbane this Saturday as Folly Games again with the Puzzle/Escape Room’ish A Convict’s Hope. This limited time event ties into the Museum’s current exhibition Life in Irons: Brisbane’s Convict Stories.

2001: A Space Odyssey turns 50th this weekend with a number of special 4K reproduction screenings happening around the country. If you are in Brisbane get yourself to either the New Farm Cinemas alternatively the Cooperoo or Portside Dendy Cinemas for some of this classic 1968 Kubrick.

Want to combine your love of LARP and Steampunk? This Saturday you can do just that at Pax Europa in Brisbane. Set against Europe play as a cast of scientists, explorers, military officers and diplomats and is open for players with no role play experience.

Also in Steampunk, Saturday is the date for the Annual Winter Ball and this year’s theme is… Steampunk. If love a ball but find it is lacking in corsets and brass then this Saturday’s ball at Brisbane‘s Cloudland might be for you.

Sunday

If you didn’t overdo it with KFC for Christmas in July on Wednesday then this Sunday is your day with it being International Chicken Wing Day. So order in or head out to your favourite Chicken Wing eatery for a bucket of your favourite wings.

And while we are still on with Christmas in July why not add change it to Christmas with Bill Murray in July with the Dendy Cooperoo Cinemas in Brisbane for their screening of Scrooged. One of the best adaptions of the Charles Dickens’ tale second only to a Muppet Christmas Carol and you can see it on the big screen this Sunday.

2. New South Wales & ACT

GAMMACON is only a stone’s throw away and if you were hoping to play at the Overwatch finals live from the con this Saturday is your first chance to register your team and play through stage one of the qualifiers on the road to GAMMACON in Canberra. If you are in Canberra get yourself to either the Dendy Cinema, if you are closer to Sydney try the Newtown Dendy OR most Hoyts Cinemas for some of this classic 1968 Kubrick.

And finally for Friday re-watch The Empire Strikes Back in the best way possible with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Playing the film in full with the orchestra playing the soundtrack is something you have to hear for yourself and you can pick up tickets for the Friday or Saturday performance now.

Sunday

If you are in Newcastle maybe stop in at the Empire Coffee Co for Sithmas in July! This event happened at Christmas and it was such a success they are doing it again this Sunday. A Gold Coin donation gets you your Sithmas photos and goes towards the mental health and suicide prevention charity, The Black Dog Institute.

Combine your love of LARP and Zombies this Saturday in Adelaide for the Don’t Panic at the Dead Wedding LARP. Sunday is your last day to catch MonsterFest at the GU Filmhouse in Adelaide and what better way then to catch the screening of the 80’s classic Monster Squad. Before Universal’s Dark Universe the Universal Monsters team-up in this film by director of Iron Man 3 and the upcoming Predator reboot Shane Black. There is only one session so make sure you pickup tickets early.
