Need more awesome Cosplay from Western Australia? Because it’s CosFriday we have just that for you this week with Perth based Cosplayer/Photographer RedScarf Cosplay!

What’s your name & how old are you? Jo, and I’m 24.

How long have you been cosplaying?  I wore my first cosplay in 2011, but didn’t start making them until 2016. It’s been a long journey.

What inspired you to start cosplaying? Honestly, the amount of zips and pockets in Final Fantasy outfits.

I picked up Kingdom Hearts 2 without knowing what it was, and discovered SupaNova shortly after in 2007. I rocked up to that convention in my volleyball uniform, and quickly discovered I was under-dressed, and wanted to join in on the fun.

I’ve been to every major convention in WA since, and started travelling interstate to conventions as we have so few here in WA. Being able to watch and meet the people who enter competitions like Madman Nationals and Oz ComicCon’s Championships is what keeps me inspired now.

What was your First Cosplay? First costume, was Grimmjow from Bleach, open-shirt binding and his mask stuck to my face with sports tape. Thankfully any photos of him are buried in the depths of Facebook somewhere.

My first costume I made though, was Gambit from X-Men. A hot-pink mess, and another costume I never want to see again. :’)

What is your most recent cosplay? Most recent build is Prompto from Final Fantasy XV.

It took me a while to pick up the game, but I quickly fell in love with the boys and their companionship, deciding I had to cosplay the vast majority of them. Prompto was the first one. A photographer who takes terrible selfies, and covers up his problems with his happy-go-lucky attitude. We were one and the same.

I’m incredibly proud of this one too. I was altering patterns, learning machine embroidery and matching paint colours to the embroidery threads and invested in 3D printing. I tried out so many new techniques in this costume, and had a lot fun over the 2-3 week period I made him in.

What cosplays are you currently working on? Currently working on Jack Skellington, and about to get started on Riku from Kingdom Hearts 2 and Yuffie from Advent Children for PAXAus 2018.

Also recently settled on Wonder Woman’s golden training armour too, as I really want to try my hand at the larger competitions in Australia, mainly the Championships of Cosplay, held by OzComicCon.

Who are your favourite cosplayers in the community? Where do I start, I’ve got too many and majority of them are friends. Sparky Cospalys from New Zealand is my top spot though. The attention to detail and reasoning behind the extra details I really appreciate. She’s also an incredible friend and help.

Terranous is my top pick for local WA talent. He’s an absolute sweetheart and his “cosPLAY” mantra has been a blessing in disguise here. But there’s also JediManda(USA based), Mikki Dyer, JusZ, Pseudonym Cosplay, I-Artemis-I, Mukuroma, the girls of ZZ Madness and a few more. Honestly, I could go on for days. :’)

Who else do you want to cosplay?  If you haven’t been able to tell, I can’t make up my mind easily, and it’s the same for my cosplay lists. My top three costumes I want to make are Ardyn from Final Fantasy XV, MCU’s Doctor Strange and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman armour. I’m finding I’m picking costumes for their detailing and potential material choices at the moment.

Tell us an odd fact about yourself!  Fun fact; Right now is the first time I’ve had a full set of brows since I before I left high school. It makes putting makeup on a struggle, and a good laugh.
