E3 2018 Pre-Guide

E3 returns for 2018 in less than a week! And with the sheer number of things that will be shown off and announced it can be hard to watch everything.

We will bring you all the coverage and recaps we can of each individual press conference from the big publishers like Microsoft, Sony and Ubisoft. But, if that isn’t enough and you want to experience E3 for yourself (from the comfort of your own home) here is our handy pre-guide of what to expect plus when and where to watch it!

1. Electronic Arts

EA as always is first with the E3 press conferences, and while last year we were blown away by the upcoming Bioware Anthem title for the XBox One X, we were disappointed it was not a launch title for the console. We are expecting that plus the recently announced Battlefield 5 to take up much of the conference and include some live game play with YouTube/Twitch personalities like we saw last year.

Expect to see:

  • Anthem
  • Battlefield 5
  • LOTS of EA Sports games

2. Microsoft

Last year saw the announcement of the XBox One X (X.B.O.X. see what they did there?) so this year we are expecting to see more games centred around the features of the latest console plus some interesting software/function updates for the XBox line. With PUBG now suing Fortnight we do not think it will be featured as heavily by Microsoft but with the move towards PC/XBox cross play in the last two years we feel this might be the year it is announced as standard.

We also think as Microsoft is earlier that they might get in before Sony for some Red Dead Redemption 2 hands on game play considering that Rockstar seldom have their own press conferences (and thus far have not announced one this year).

Expect to see:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Lots of XBox One X enhanced games mentioned

3. Bethesda

While Bethesda are usually pretty good for a full press conference of announcements they have already let fly a teaser trailer for the newest Fallout to join the series with Fallout 76. They may have done this as not to have any spoilers ruin their big announcement, or it could just be because they have the coveted billboard space on the Los Angeles convention centre. Either way, expect a large amount of tales from the wastelands.

Expect to see:

  • Fallout 76
  • Rage 2
  • Some Elder Scrolls

4. Ubisoft

Ubisoft have pretty much let the cat out of the bag for most of their new games this year with the Spartan warrior themed Assassin’s Creed Odyssey announced via twitter in the last few days to go with The Division 2 earlier this year.

Last year Ubisoft had a HUGE amount of games announced with a lot of those being only initial announcement teasers, so this year we are expecting a lot more game play and release dates for those titles.

Expect to see:

  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • The Division 2
  • Beyond Good and Evil 2
  • The Crew 2
  • Mario + Rabbits Kingdom Battle with Donkey Kong (and if not here then in the Nintendo Treehouse)

5. Sony

Official E3 Site | Tuesday, June 12, 11:00 a.m. AEST, watch it via Youtube

There have been a few leaks in the last few days about what Sony is planning to bring to the table in their press conference this year but we are still a little on the fence as to how likely the titles mentioned will be.

For the last 2 years Sony has had a slightly different format than other press conferences, choosing to be more of a showcase than having developers get up on stage and talk about the coming games. If the leaks are to be believed there will be no PSVR and a lot less games shown this year, but we think that Sony will be tuning their presentation right up to the last minute.

While some Sony execs have been quoted as to the end of the PS4 lifespan nearing we also do not expect to see any hardware announcements for E3 with Sony instead holding those for their own PlayStation Experience event which happens later this year.

Expect to see:

  • Spider-Man
  • Last of Us 2
  • Death Stranding
  • Kingdom Hearts 3
  • Probably Red Dead Redemption 2 as well

6. Nintendo

Official E3 Site | Wednesday, June 13, 2:00 a.m. AEST, watch it via Youtube

Having given up on the big annual press conferences for quite a while now Nintendo’s quarterly Nintendo Spotlight has been a great source for everything happening for the Nintendo.

While we don’t expect any big announcements from Nintendo at E3 that we wouldn’t expect any other time of the year this year’s E3 also includes the second annual Splatoon Cup with Team Yeah Nah representing Australia and New Zealand. Could eSports be a new cornerstone for Nintendo? You will probably find out the same time as we do.

Expect to see:

  • Super Smash Bros
  • Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion (which is also for PS4 and XBox)
  • 3DS titles
  • Tons of more indie games announced for the Switch
  • Possibly a mention of the Mario+Rabbits Gold Edition with Donkey Kong
