Thursday

Hitting cinemas this week you have your choice of dog related films. First up you have Wes Anderson’s latest animated following in the style of The Fantastic Mr Fox, Isle of Dogs. Or, if you prefer your dogs more building sized, then the latest big budget remake of an 80’s video game is Rampage. The Rock leads this Giant Ape vs Giant Wolf vs Giant (not Godzilla) Lizard out in cinemas on Thursday along with our review.

Friday

Danger Will Robinson! This Friday the latest remake to get the big budget Netflix treatment is Lost In Space! This looks seriously good and Parker Posey as Doctor Smith is only one of the many reasons for it being already on our watch list.

It’s also Friday the 13th so why not head to Brisbane‘s Metro Arts for the Friday night screening for some excellent cult cinema. See A Nightmare on Elm Street or The Crow (or both) during these limited sessions on Friday, but don’t delay as the first session of The Crow has already sold out and these are extra sessions.

Saturday

It’s all things 8-Bit at Netherworld in Brisbane for their 8-Bit Domination event. It’s all about 8-Bit music and art as you kick back with some classic machines in the arcade room this Saturday.

Sunday

This Sunday Brisbane‘s largest Retro Market is happening again for Easter. In between venues this massive event has a huge selection of everything from Atari 2600 to the Dreamcast. Just get there early as if previous events are to something to go off there will be a line up the street.

Brisbane’s GOMA Cinema has a monstrous TRIPLE feature this Sundayfor it’s curious affection film program with your choice of the original 1931 Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon or the most recent Oscar winning Shape of Water. Pickup your tickets online or at the box office.

OzuteriaCon is the ‘Tales of’ JRPG gaming con that you have always wanted. Happening this Saturday in Sydney you can pickup tickets at the door for the main event or online to also register for the cosplay comp.

Warhammer 40k lovers in Gosford can lock themselves in for a weekend of gaming at WarZone Central Coast III this Saturday and Sunday. This is a serious event with an entry fee to go with it’s big prize pool so check the event page for details on how to enter and requirements on the games.

Need an excuse to don your finest Cosplay? Of course you don’t but if you are in Sydney why not get to the Spawn Point for Cosplay Night this Saturday. It’s the first cosplay night of the year and you can win some cool prizes in the Cosplay Comp too!

Sunday

And to wrap up your Sunday at the Limelight in Canberra for the first film in their Total 80’s series with Labyrinth. See this classic with Bowie as the Goblin King for one session only this Sunday.

Alternatively, if you find yourself in Sydney this Sunday and also in need of some classic cinema head to the Ritz for the Princess Bride on the original 35mm. Playing both Saturday and Sunday for one session only you can pickup tickets via the Ritz Cinema official site.

3. Victoria & Tasmania

Wednesday

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival continues this week for you to catch James Veitch talking about Donkey Kong and Time Travel this Wednesday (and a few other date). Appearing at the Melbourne Comedy Festival after shows at the Adelaide Fringe get a ticket for our favourite SPAM replying TEDTalker.

Also this week don’t forget that Marvel Avenger STATION is still in Federation Square in Melbourne. Running through to June this experience gives you the skills you need to become a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent in the lead up to Infinity War.

Looking for some Melbourne Comedy Festival geeky goodness? On Thursday you can get to Completely Improvised Potter, for a serving of polyjuice with a hint of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named for this show bringing you some fresh new adventures from Hogwarts.

Friday

Camp Caligo is hitting it’s fourth year at Mount Evelyn in outer Melbourne this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This full weekend event long LARP event is jam packed so you are best hitting the official site for all the details including how to book your accommodation at the camp.

The Game Boys return with their new show for the Melbourne Comedy Festival this year in the Wide World of eSports. This eSports centric show brings you live to the Windows 3.1 stadium for the Elympics of the XLIX Olympiad. Shows start this week so pickup a ticket this Friday.

Looking to meet your Player Two? The BETA Bar is having another Gamer Singles night this Friday in Melbourne. This LGBTQ friendly event will have all the usual trimmings of gaming and cosplay on top of it’s special speed dating room.

And just one more thing for Friday in Melbourne.. Every Friday Night until June is an after hours night for the Melbourne Planetarium. This 18+ event will let you pickup a drink from the Planetarium bar and then take you through the night sky. Booking is essential.

Saturday

Don’t forget Brickman Awesome is the LEGO certified Brickman’s latest exhibition is still running this weekend and until the end of the month. At the Melbourne Museum this exhibition uses 450,000 bricks in a variety of displays for you to check out. Get your tickets from the official website.

When a young prince witnesses his parents being done in a back alley by a troupe of roving minstrels, he sets on a path of revenge that results in him dressing as a bat. It’s Batman, but just a bit more Shakespearean in Much Ado About Batman as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival this Saturday (and some other dates too).

Gameshow of Thrones is the mash up you have always wanted with Game of Thrones themed challenges meeting with Melbourne Comedy Festival Comedians. Watch the vicious comedy battle on Saturday.

Sunday

We love local creators and indie comics as you might have guessed and if you do too you can head to the Homecooked Comics Festival this Sunday in Melbourne. Running since 2012 this year has over 50 creators for Comic and Graphic Novel related super fun times. It’s on from midday and entry is FREE!

DC vs Marvel! Batman vs Superman! New 52 vs. Pre 52! This Sunday it is time for the Great Super Hero Debate at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. This show from the UK and following on from a season at the Adelaide Fringe touches on everything Avengers, X-Men, Justice League and everything in between.

4. South Australia & Northern Territory

Wednesday

There is plenty coming up so why not kick back and relax this Wednesday in SA and NT. Why not stay in and work on your MCU re-watch or maybe pickup something new to play.

It’s the Season One final for the Playford eSports League in Adelaide‘s northern suburbs this Thursday. The game is Street Fighter V on PS4 and it is your last chance to hold the trophy and win the prizes, so register now if you intend to play.

Looking for the perfect film for your Friday the 13th? Not looking for some hardcore horror? How about The Rocky Horror Picture Show this Friday in Adelaide at the Capri Theatre. This 18+ event hosted by the Capri Theatre’s showgirl Vonn with the bar opening and a show before the post midnight screening of the movie.

It’s classic gaming night at the Adelaide Retro Computing group and this week it’s the humble Amiga and Commodore. It’s only $4 entry to help cover location cost to bring your pre-loved machine but even if you don’t have one you can still check it out to get some hands on or maybe pick up a pre-loved machine of your own via the swap meet.

The West Australian Symphony Orchastra will take you from Gotham to a Galaxy Far Far Away all via the TARDIS this Friday with a Symphonic Tribute to Comic-Con. Tickets are still available for the only performance this Friday night in Perth but with only one performance make sure you get your ticket while they are still available as not to miss out.

And wrap up your Friday the 13th at Perth‘s Respawn with a special Friday the 13th themed Party. At their new venue there will be Cosplay Comps and gaming with some Resident Evil on PSVR to keep you up all night.

Saturday

Evolve is back for 2018! This massive Perth only event was huge last year and looks to be bigger this year with so many local talented guests including our favourite That Gypsy Geek. It’s on for one day only so make sure you get tickets and don’t miss it.

Sunday

Round out your weekend with some Toiken on the big screen with Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers playing at Perth‘s Backlot. You can pickup tickets on the day at the door but it’s a lot easier to get them online before.
