Hercules Returns turns 25 and the Adelaide Fringe Festival continues. Here is everything happening across Australia this week in Geek.

1. Queensland

Wednesday

Own all the Lord of the Rings Editions, extended editions and every version of the books you can get your hands on? Put that knowledge to good use at the Stock Exchange in Brisbane for LOTR trivia night this Wednesday. Book a table to reserve your spot else you may not pass, into trivia night.

Thor Ragnarok’s release on Bluray have you looking for more Taika Waititi? Check out his work with Flight of the Concord’s Jemaine Clement at the Blueroom Cinema for the Vampire Mockumentary, What We Do in the Shadows. The second instalment of the Blueroom’s film club, expect trivia, signature cocktails on top of the screening this Wednesday in Brisbane.

And finally, want to start your week with some midweek LARP? Heroes Odyssey in Brisbane‘s south have their regular Wednesday night LARP session this week. Open to members and non-members and weapons hire, but if you do want to bring your own maybe check what is legal first.

Yes that’s right you can win the chance to get into the giant dog or Godzilla costume and battle over cardboard Netherworld before heading back to the arcade room for rounds of the original Rampage this Sunday.

MonsterFest returns to Event George St Cinemas in Sydney from this Friday. Running until Sunday, this travelling film festival brings you all the monster horror you need. Jump over to the official site for the full list of films and pickup tickets but our picks? The 4K remastered Night of the Living Dead and Monster Squad by Iron Man 3 writer/director Shane Black.

For anyone in the Newcastle area is NewCon Oz 2018 the first annual tabletop gaming weekend. General entry is free but check the details if you want to play (or even maybe host) a game. It kicks off on Friday and runs through to Sunday.

Want to continue with your outdoor cinema this week? Event’s Moonlight Cinemas are playing the fantastic Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle as it plays this Friday night in Sydney. If you haven’t seen this flick yet (or even if you have and want to see it again) get your tickets to reserve your spot.

And saving the best for last with Sydney‘s Ritz Cinema hosting the 25th anniversary screening of Hercules Returns this Friday. This special screening also includes a Q&A session with a reunion of the original cast (sorry, not Hercules). Make sure you get your tickets and tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree for this.

Are you super hyped for Pacific Rim: Uprising? You should be, we caught some scenes during an early preview and it looks good. So before it hits cinemas later this month get to the Melbourne IMAX for the original Pacific Rim in 3D. Massive Robots on a Massive screen this Sunday.

It’s Superhero Day in Moe and all Superheroes are invited this Sunday. Gear up as your favourite caped crusader and compete for best dressed prize or to checkout the local vendors.

4. South Australia & Northern Territory

Wednesday

Continuing this week at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, catch some Harry Potter themed comedy with Unplotted Potter. Wednesday night is the next time you can catch this show but there are other performances over the next two weeks if you need to work it into your schedule.

Also continuing this week at the Adelaide Fringe Festival from Wednesday (and also running the for most of the Festival) Thrones the Musical is the Game of Thrones parody you never knew you needed. Sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe this is a definite for any George RR. Martin fans.

Prefer your Pop Culture more retro? For the entire duration of the Adelaide Fringe Festival you can catch an Exhibition of Retro Pop Culture featuring Pop Culture from the 20s through to 60s. It’s on Weekdays starting Thursday.

And rounding out your Wednesday, straight from the Perth Fringe World is a sketch comedy show based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, MARVELus. Starting at the Adelaide Fringe Festival this Wednesday for the next two weeks.

Fresh from Perth’s Fringe World you can get all the sexy science time you need this Wednesday night with Nikola and I.With only limited performances left, be regaled by a night of your host as they retell being flung through time for space, science and cosmic “woo woo”. Happening both Saturday and Sunday in Adelaide with the best players from South Australia as well other states all looking to get their triple word score on, the comp is open to all comers if you think you have what it takes.

Wands at the Ready is a Wizarding scavenger hunt with you solving cryptic clues and using spellcraft to solve puzzles in place sight as Adelaide‘s mystic defender. This 75 minute challenge set in the Rundle Mall is happening every Saturday for the duration of the Festival.

Want to combine your love of the rest of DC Comics and Burlesque this weekend? Missed Club Gotham? Get a ticket to Dawn of Justass: A DC Comics Burlesque tribute. Happening as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival, shows are also limited but get your tickets for your last chance to see it this Saturday.

Zombie Zone combines two of our favourite loves, Nerf and Zombies at the Adelaide Fringe Festival this Sunday. From 11 PM til 3 AM this Sunday join other Zombie Hunters and face off against the Zombie hoard in this gaming event at the old Royal Adelaide Hospital. There has been a murder at Hogwarts… yes another one. Catch this performance by the Adelaide Improv group as they return to Hogwarts and give the audience clues to the identity of the killer. There are only a limited number of shows so catch this one on Sunday.
