From ’66 Batmobiles to the first ‘Con of the year. This year in Geek has officially started so here is everything happening across Australia this week.

1. Queensland

Wednesday

First up the Shape of Water is being released across the country this Thursday but you can still catch a preview session this week as part of the Moonlight Cinema in Brisbane! There is only the one session so if the weather looks favourable why not head out to under the stars.

On TV season 3 of the Magicians starts for anyone with the SyFy channel on Foxtel. For fans of the series the new one will feature something we have never seen before, swearing.

Thursday

In Cinemas across the country this Thursday you can get the latest Del Toro dark tale with the Shape of Water (for anyone who didnt go to a preview session). Also in Cinemas this Thursday is the third chapter in the Maze Runner series with Maze Runner: The Death Cure. Check back later this week for our full review for both.

And as a special bonus in Cinemas but only in limited release you can also catch the anime fantasy film Mary and the Witch’s Flower which is based on The Little Broomstick by Mary Stewart. Check your favourite local independent sessions of this one.

Still in movies but on the small screen, if you missed out on catching the Australian made The Osiris Child in it’s limited release then those of you with Foxtel premiere channels will be able to catch this Thursday night. Made for the big screen you won’t regret calling some friends over to enjoy your big screen TV for the night (or maybe go visit one of your friends with one).

Netherworld in Brisbane is having it’s sixth Indie Dev Night showcasing the best in local game making talents. If you want to check out some new upcoming games or even if you are in the industry and want to meet other developers, it’s happening this Thursday.

Friday

Can’t wait til 2020 for the next big screen Godzilla? This Friday on Netflix you can binge the Anime series. What do we know about it? Almost nothing including how many episodes there will be, but there will be at least one and it will on Netflix this Friday.

Saturday

Happy Penguin Awareness Day! Yes this Saturday is the Porg of the Antarctic’s day so be aware, they could be anywhere.

If you haven’t left Netherworld since Thursday night checkout this Saturday for the Dragon Lair arcade master class. Learn the tricks to defeat this 1983 classic this Saturday in Brisbane.

Sunday

Need a double feature to round out your weekend? Netherworld’s (again) Two-Bit Cinema Club this week brings you The Thing and Predator for a creature double feature in Brisbane. Like always don’t forget your Two-Bit cinema club membership card for specials or sign up this Sunday.

And rounding out your weekend outside of Melbourne at Coal Creek the time travel adventure of GeekFest 2018 is happening. Set in the Coal Creek museum this Steampunk spectacular is also the largest Doctor Who event in Victoria so allons-y in your best Fez or scarf this Sunday.
