The much anticipated next entry in the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek Discovery, will air next month on the 25th of September. Netflix will air the first eight episodes on successive Mondays through the 6th of November and follow with the final seven in January of 2018.
Weekly release of episodes, while contrary to Netflix’s normal season-at-a-time release model, is not unique to Discovery. Other shows licensed to Netflix for international release have followed this same format such as Rick and Morty and The Expanse.
News of Discovery’s finalised release date was announced by Netflix, Australia late last week and is a relief to viewers around the world who had been waiting to hear when the show would air on its international home.
Discovery stars notable talent including Michelle Yeoh, Jason Issacs, and Sonequa Martin-Green, and will be the first Star Trek series to do away with the episodic format of it’s predecessors and focus solely on it’s season long story arc.
With new characters, a new format, and what seems to be a bold new visual design, Star Trek fans have a lot to look forward to in the next few months and the new year!
