With The Deep Season 2 hits ABC Me on August 22nd (Today!) we talk to The Deep Co-Creator and already awesome artist James Brouwer about the Deep series (and just released mobile game!).
So why not take 5 and find out what lies in The Deep.
What are you playing right now? Anything with multiplayer so my kids can join in – so basically just getting trounced at Mario Kart and Splatoon. Nothing quite like the shame/pride of being beaten by your own children!
Who or what is The Deep? Why is it important? Put simply, The Deep is the story of the Nektons, a family of explorers who live on a submarine.
Starting out as two graphic novels from Gestalt Comics (written by Internet Famous Tom Taylor, with art by some guy), it’s now an Australian-Canadian co-produced animated series that screens around the world, and has recently branched out into mobile gaming, with development in other mediums hopefully on the horizon. At its core, though, it’s about the wonder of discovery, the strength of family and the importance of our environment, all presented in a shiny, all-ages package.
Apart from The Deep what should everyone be looking out for in local Australian Pop Culture? We’re spoiled for choice! Among many other things, we have world-class film and TV production at places like Animal Logic and Village Roadshow, featuring awesome concept artists like Jeremy Love and Brad Nielsen; the unique sci-fi/fantasy of Cleverman and its comic book tie-in with art by Emily K. Smith; and Justin Randall’s Changing Ways, which is surely going to conquer the world any day now.
Major prediction for Pop Culture 12 months from now? The Jaipocalypse. #JaiBless
Best last thing you ate? Roast duck curry from our local Thai restaurant – they don’t skimp on the lychees!
And that’s 5! You can find James and learn more about his projects via Facebook or you can get more of The Deep via it’s official Facebook, but you can catch The Deep on ABC Me or iView for Season 2 from Today @ 6:10 PM AEST!!
The mobile game is also now available on Android and iOS, AND if you want to really go Deep you can still pickup the original graphic novel Volume 1 and Volume 2 directly from Gestalt Comics (and Comixology)!!!
Wow, that’s a lot of The Deep.
