While still probably a gazillionare from all that Simpson money, Netflix has successfully signed on Matt Groening to develop his new series, Disenchantment.
Described as a series “about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you” this new series is set in a crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland.
Carrying the familiar animation style of the Simpsons and Futurama it will follow the alcoholic princess Bean and her companions Elfo the elf and Luci the demon as they encounter various magical/medieval type creatures. The series will star Abbi Jacobson (“Bean”), Nat Faxon (“Elfo”) and Eric Andre (“Luci”) but also feature talents such as John DiMaggio and Billy West, to name just a few of the extensive cast.
This is not the first series to jump from Fox to Netflix, with Arrested Development being a recent example of something that Fox skipped on and Netflix was more than happy to take. Right now Disenchantment is set for ten episodes at a time, the length of the first season being unknown lets Netflix extend based on popularity, but if it goes well we can only dream what Groening and Netflix together might mean.
With Adventure Time finishing up when this new series starts in 2018, lucky we wont have to get by for long without our next animated adventure series.
