1. Queensland

Wednesday

Brisbane‘s GOMA continues it’s MCU marathon with both Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 playing Wednesday night. You can grab tickets online or at the GOMA box office an hour prior to the screenings which are playing one after the other (so you don’t need to choose!).

Thursday

Finally! Season 2 of Cleverman hits the ABC on Thursday night (for everyone was not lucky enough to catch the first 2 episodes at the Sydney Film Festival)! If you aren’t home on Thursday, don’t worry it will also be up on iView as is the entire Season 1 is if you need to go back and watch the last episode of last season first.

Friday

Hey, guess what? Friday is Red Nose Day in Australia. It is all in aid of the Sudden Infant Death (SIDS) Research Foundation, even if you don’t want to wear a red nose you can still give and help out.

Do you make your own comics? Would you like to? Need a little bit of advice? If you are serious about your book then the Metro Arts Collective will be hosting a small Q&A panel with some local comic creators to help you figure out how to take those next steps. It’s on Friday afternoon in Brisbane‘s south.

Saturday

Saturday kicks off Dry July across Australia! If you don’t know Dry July isn’t just an excuse to run a clean month but to also raise money for Cancer charities. So if you want to have a slightly healthier month, maybe you can line up some sponsors.

If you are in North Queensland it’s probably a hassle to head to any of the major cons, but not this weekend because in Mackay Haven Expo is on Saturday and Sunday! There is a pretty great list of guests for a con not in a major city so you shouldn’t be on the fence about getting along!

Sunday

David Bowie hasn’t been in a lot of films but you may need to turn in your geek credentials if you have never seen him as the Goblin King in Labyrinth before. Lucky for you that the Brisbane‘s Metro Arts have not one but two screenings of the 1986 film on Sunday, and if you are even luckier you can still grab some tickets.

Also in Brisbane and back at GOMA, if you couldn’t catch the Wednesday sessions Sunday has Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 playing back to back. Just like the Wednesday screenings you can still grab tickets online or just an hour before at the GOMA box office.

Also on Sunday if you are waiting for season 3 of Killyjoys it is finally here. Airing on Foxtel’s SyFy channel and express from the US to to fill that massive space bounty hunter shaped void you have have since you watched Cowboy Bebop for the 23rd time.

And lastly, for Sunday, the season finale of Doctor Who and the aftershow Whovians airs on ABC and ABC iView. It is the last episode for the current Doctor (and show runner Stephen Moffat) with the new Doctor a close guarded but no doubt we will be finding out this Sunday!
